The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, October 23, 2019 C-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg CDT. This Wednesday will be our last RC for JC (Re- mote Control cars for Je- sus Christ) for the fall/win- ter months. It has been a huge success, but due to the colder weather, we will sideline the outdoor racing cars for the winter. But, the good news is there is one more this week before it is sidelined. If you have not brought your child yet, then come this Wednesday. The children eat at 5:30 p.m., re- ceive a Bible lesson and then go outside to a lighted dirt track. Also, this Wednes- day we continue our study in Philippians; we are be- ginning the third chapter of Philippians. We have food and fellowship at 5:30 p.m. and our study starts just af- ter 6 p.m. It won't be long until No- vember. Which means a time change (Nov. 3) and our an- nual Thanksgiving Din- ner (served on Thanksgiv- ing, Nov. 28) at Wirth Park. We're excited about the op- portunity to cook a Thanks- giving dinner as we partner with other churches and businesses in the communi- ty to make this event possi- ble. It's all done because we love Jesus and love people. day and had to visit the local trash dispos- al with a couple of bags of stuff we threw away. It seems different to open the frig door and be able to find what you are look- ing for without getting half of the stuff in there out. Amazing how things accumulate so quickly. Thursday we started working toward put- ting up the Christmas decorations in the park. We got the distribution power centers in place and when I got home there was still time so I cleaned the baffle filter in our sep- tic tank. This filter needs to be removed and washed out about every two months and if you have a septic system with this filter add- ed on you should pay attention to it. I have had to go to every other day work- outs for now because my leg has become sore from the walking portion of my rou- tine. If I don't push too hard I'm able to complete my workout without much pain. I don't want to quit because exercise does hep your health and you feel better after a good workout. I was real proud of my grandson because he wanted to go to Bible study with papaw at Golden Living Center and he sat beside me as I asked and even visited with the res- idents there at Bible study. He will turn out to be a good man but of course papaw might be a little biased. We went to Boonville to listen to a sem- inar by Karl Vator and it concerned mak- ing the small church stronger. It is his view that numbers don't make a church success- ful but how the people there are willing to "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever be- lieveth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" ( John 3:16). In the light of the Pauline epistles these well-known words have become more appro- priate than when our Lord first spoke them. Through Paul, Christ's redemptive work at Calvary has been proclaimed and fully ex- plained. In this light, then, we suggest that our readers take the time to really meditate on this passage about God's greatest gift to man. Think of the love that prompted it! "God so loved…." We were the "children of disobedi- ence" and "by nature the children of wrath, even as others" (Eph. 2:2,3). We deserved judgment, "but God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us," gave His best, His all, to save us (Eph. 2:4). Think of its priceless value! "His only be- gotten Son — everlasting life." Christ, the holy One, had to be given up to disgrace and death in order that our sins might be justly dealt with, and that we might become the rightful heirs of everlasting life (Rom. 3:25,26). Think of your need of this gift! "…that whosoever believeth in Him should not per- ish…." How perilous not to accept "the gift of God, eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23)! What folly to spurn or ig- nore a gift we need so sorely! Finally, think how gracious the offer! "… that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Whosoev- er believeth! Any sinner may have this gift by simply believing, accepting in simple faith what God says about Christ paying for our sins at Calvary. In fact, this is the only way we can become the recipients of this wonder- ful gift, for Rom. 4:5 declares: "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith [believing] is counted for righteousness." Stam Integrity in the Church Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin If one could look into the heart, mind and soul of a pastor or Christian leader you would expect to find total integrity. In our nation and church there has been a falling away, a breakdown and a compromise in in- tegrity. Many of our politicians are totally devoid of integrity. They promise things on the campaign trail that they never intend to do and often it is impossible to do what they falsely promise. Behind our church pews and, even worse, in our pulpits there is a lack of integrity. According to Webster's Dictionary, in- tegrity means to be sound, solid and unim- paired. It means completeness. You have in- tegrity when you are honest and keep your word. Integrity is the opposite of hypocri- sy. It includes financial accountability. In- tegrity means personal reliability and pri- vate purity. A person of integrity always tells the truth even if it hurts. It means always being faith- ful to one's spouse and honest with their employer. Every true Christian who fol- lows Christ will have integrity. The world is looking for more authentic Christians. A few years ago Senator Grassley of the Senate Finance Committee called on six well-known ministers to explain their lavish homes, Bentley cars and jets. Among his questions we find reason- able accountability for donor's tax-free gifts to their churches and ministries. Every pas- tor deserves a reasonable salary but not the excesses engaged in by these six different clergymen and clergywomen. These abuses hurt the cause of Christ and sometimes the good pastors and T V preachers are judged by the bad. There are two words that should be part of the life of all servants of God, "In- tegrity and Accountability." Well we had another decent week here at the Thomas household. There are always plenty of things to be concerned about, but sometimes our concerns only keeps us from enjoying the blessings which come our way. Helped unload the food truck and then worked at home on several projects need- ing attention. I was trying to weld up some holes in my lawn trailer but I only made it worse. I burned through the metal I was working on. I don't know much about welding and the little wire welder I bought quit welding because of overheating. So I moved on to the next project which was the leaf gutter on my shop. I tried to use my head for something be- sides a hat rack and found a piece of two inch PVC pipe and an elbow attached to the end of my leaf blower worked just fine. This re- ally took a lot of the effort out of a dirty job. A fter accomplishing this task I moved on to sweeping up a couple of loads of leaves in the vac system. I hope we can keep up with them this year. There has been many prayers sent up for my liver and I certainly give God praise for an excellent blood work last week. My tests were good enough that I didn't have to have a blood draw which means the old liver is still working. Just not like we would like it to yet. I do believe God will take care of what- ever is going on in me. Connie left me to babysit with Willow while she went to beauty salon and when she got home she found both of us asleep in papaw's chair. She is and always has been a good baby and easy to watch. It's cool outside today so it seems to be a good day to just rest today. I've been re- tired for about seven years now and rest- ing doesn't seem to bother me as bad as it used to. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. The Psalmist declared tat God's Word runs very swiftly. Divine command- ments are not hindered by either distance or time. Just as shooting an arrow and hitting the mark takes on- ly a moment, so God speaks and it is done. Jesus said to a leprous man, "Be thou clean. And immediately his lepro- sy was cleaned" (Matthew 8:3b). He said to a blind man, "Be thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And im- mediately he received his sight" (Mark 10 :52b). God can deliver His peo- ple speedily and immediate- ly send them whatever sup- plies are needed. He speaks the word and it is done. No sooner does the Holy Spir- it say to one's soul, "Be en- lightened, be quickened, be strengthened and be com- forted," and it is done. Karri Brock, Reporter
