Obituaries LYNN (LEAVIT T) BURDINE Lynn (Leavitt) Burdine, 59, passed away on August 4, 2019, from lung cancer, with her family by her side in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She was born on July 4, 1960, to Marge and Gary Leavitt. She was raised in Peters- burg and was a member of the Pike Central High School Class of 1978. She graduated from Vincennes University with a degree in fine arts. She had a huge heart and was a caregiver to others most of her life. She loved nature, gardening and the beach. A true artist at heart, she expressed her- self through painting, draw- ing and poetry. She is survived by her husband, Ira, of Fort Wal- ton Beach; her children, Greg Mann, of Petersburg, Mandy Burdine, of Carm- el, Ind., and Jenny Burdine, of Pace, Fla.; her parents, Marge and Gary Leavitt, of Petersburg; her sister, Bet- sy Leavitt Lange, of Carm- el; her brother, Mike Leavitt, of Nineveh, Ind.; grandchil- dren, Trent Mann, Kailee Mann and Ziggy Burdine; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is be- ing planned for family and friends at a later date. ROY W. SHOULTZ Roy W. Shoultz, 58, of Pe- tersburg, passed away Au- gust 6, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born January 12, 1961, to the late Marion and Laura Lavon (Stone) Shoultz in Washington. He was a 1979 graduate of Pike Central High School. He was a lifetime coal min- er, having retired from Vigo Coal/White Stallion Coal. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, the IOOF, and a current member of the Masonic Lodge Pike F&AM #121, Hadi Temple and the Pike County Shrine Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, M. Shannon Owens and Nancy Smith; a niece; a nephew; and a great-great nephew. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jackie (Gottman) Shoultz; their children, Andrew (Emi- ly) Shoultz, of Knoxville, Tenn., Jana (Damon) At- kins, of Oakland City, and Lexus (Billy Smith) Shoultz, of Petersburg; their precious grandchildren, Berkley and Lakin Atkins; and siblings, Charles Shoultz, of Prince- ton, Jim Shoultz and Sherry Cockerham, both of Peters- burg, and Debbie Sattler, of Jasper. Services will be at 11 a.m. EDT on Friday, August 9, 2019, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, with Pastor Mike Atkins officiat- ing. Burial will take place at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. EDT on Thursday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funer- al home. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. The city's project to reduce blight is coming along very nicely. Two new homes are currently being built this month with hopes to see more development in the near future. Fifty-five children were registered, with thirty having perfect attendance for the whole week.
