C-2 Church Wednesday, August 7, 2019 The Press-Dispatch Continued from page 1 CHURCH NOTE DEADLINE 10 A.M. EVERY TUESDAY Baptist Continued on page 3 Continued in next column Continued in next column "Opening up your life to a dog who needs a home is one of the most fulfilling things you can do"—Emma Kennedy. This week, PAWS is featuring two fun-loving pups named Jace and Jed. They were brought to the shelter with their mom, who was severely malnourished. Mom and pups are doing very well now, thanks to the good care they are receiving at PAWS. Jace is black and white and has a very outgoing personality. Jed is choc- olate and white, and is a little shy. They are 10 weeks old and ready for their forever home. They are the perfect age to train and become a perfect addition to your family. To adopt Jace or Jed or both puppies, call 812-354-9894. PAWS also has lots of adorable kittens that desperately need good homes. If you could pro- vide a good home to one of these fur babies, stop by PAWS to adopt. JACE & JED PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the Hephzibah-Littles general baptist church 743 W. CR. 125 S. PETERSBURG, IN august 11 Singing at 2pm Morning Worship 10:30am Followed by dinner at the fellowship hall. featuring plans to join us this Sunday for our last message in Ex- ploring Psalms. Coming in September, we will begin a new Sunday morning series on the first Corinthian letter. Paul plant- ed a church in the great city of Corinth and two or three years after leaving the church, he received some disturbing news about strife, division, misconduct, arro- gance and much more. You will be amazed at how much the modern church has in common with the church at Corinth. Crossroads was blessed to receive the "Best Over- all" trophy from our en- try in the Sweet Corn Fes- tival parade. We appreciat- ed all the judges and every- one that supported us as we walked along our float in the parade. We met many won- derful people and received many compliments. We also had a great evening serving dinner last Friday with the Lions Club. Looking forward to next year. This week, Wednes- day August 7, we will be at OCU hosting a pasta din- ner for Student Life. Cross- roads loves our communi- ties in both Gibson and Pike counties. If you do not have a church home, we would love for you to visit Cross- roads. Also, we encourage you to visit our website at www.crossroadsoc.org to get more information about upcoming events. Like us on Facebook and see some pic- tures from various events. Ye know that he was mani- fested to take away our sins. That we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteous- ness. He [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniq- uities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. . . . The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Through this man is preached unto you the for- giveness of sins: and by him all that believe are jus- tified from all things, from which ye could not be jus- tified by the law of Moses. Your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. It pleased [the Father] that in him should all full- ness dwell. The brightness of [his] glory, and the ex- press image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majes- ty on high; being made so much better than the an- gels, as he hath by inheri- tance obtained a more ex- cellent name than they. All things are yours; whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; and ye are Christ's. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free and join us for services. I am sure you will leave be- ing blessed. May God bless each and everyone of you. Frank Renner, Pastor Rev. Mark Wade, Deacon Catholic Christian FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service and the Lord's Sup- per at 10 :30 a.m. A number of years ago a movie came out called Fac- ing the Giants. Without go- ing into too much detail, at the climax of the movie the main character, Coach Tay- lor looked at a crowded lock- er room of tired high school football players and asked the question "what is impos- sible with God? " The idea was to hear their answer, nothing. Which is true, we believe that with God every- thing is possible (Matthew 19:26). This week while preach- ing over the latter half of John 17, the words of Jesus, or should I say the prayer of Jesus to the Father right be- fore he is arrested the night before his execution, struck me. Jesus' prayer was very purposeful, and Jesus specif- ically prayed that the Father would make and keep his fol- lowers one. Jesus knew that what the apostles would face in his absence would be enough to divide them or give the enemy a chance to break them away from each other. But Jesus also knew that if his followers were united, that nothing would be impossible, in the king- dom of God, with his follow- ers unified, the kingdom of God would persevere. Everyone welcome. "Children, obey your par- ents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Fathers, do not ex- asperate your children; in- stead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Because He lives.
