The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, August 7, 2019 C- 3 in the satisfying presence of his God. David not only began his day in fellowship with the Lord and spoke of Him throughout the day, he al- so ended his day with the Lord. He wrote, "I remem- ber Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches" (v. 6). For soldiers and shepherds, the night was divided into three watches: from sunset to 10 p.m., from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., and from 2 a.m. un- til dawn. In verse six, David is sharing that, throughout the night, sleep sometimes evaded him because even then he was thinking about the Lord and His greatness. David also explained: "My soul followeth hard after thee" (v. 8). Just as a young man oftentimes pur- sues hard after a young woman to win her love, Da- vid fervently pursued his re- lationship with the Lord. Of course, David did not have to win His love. The Lord already loved David. None- theless, David was not ca- sual or complacent in the way he nurtured his rela- tionship with the Lord. His walk with the Lord meant too much to him for his ef- forts to be anything less than diligent and whole- hearted. In principle, we should exert the same kind of effort in our relationship with the Lord as we read that David did. Are you following hard after the Lord? We encour- age you to pattern your walk with Christ after the example of David's whole- heartedness. Make a strong effort to make each day one of fellowship with the Lord from beginning to end. I don't think it would be for me because the older I get the more I dislike close spaces and things holding me down. Flat Creek presbertery held its annual meeting at Oakland City Univer- sity last Saturday morn- ing The ordained author- ity attended a well orga- nized meeting. Dr. Frank Dumond was our featured speaker and he had a sem- inar about planting Spiri- tual seeds and reaping the joys they contain. One of the high points I carried away from his lesson was not giving up and keep do- ing what works. Also what works for one doesn't mean it is a fit for all. It was an all day meeting and I was wore out at the end of the meeting. I better be wrapping this thing up because I'll be having a couple of pag- es taken up in the paper. As I always ask of you, keep on being a blessing and be blessed. There- fore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness- es, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9 -10, NIV ). Sunday evening was the closing of our VBS program featuring "The Incredible Race." What a wonderful week it has been. There were 55 children registered with 30 having perfect attendance for the whole week. The VBS was focused on the Bible story of the Tower of Babel and how the Lord dispersed the people over all the face of the earth. On Monday, the children learned that God's creation was good until the seed of sin was planted in the heart of man. On Tuesday, they heard about how God con- fused the languages of the people of Babylon, which re- sulted in a huge migration to all parts of the earth. On Wednesday, we talked about why the descendants of No- ah went where they went, A f- rica, Europe, Asia. Thurs- day's focus was on God's plan of salvation for all man- kind; Jesus, the one and on- ly way to Heaven. Friday's lesson taught us that if God loved us enough to give His only Son to die for our sins, we ought also to love one another. The parable of the Good Samaritan illustrated this point well. The children memorized memory verses, sang songs in different languages, and tasted the flavor of culture from all over the world. We thank the Lord for the suc- cessful week, and we are ex- pecting much fruit from this labor of love. "And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively be- ing transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [Who is] the Spirit" (II Cor- inthians 3:18). Moses' face only held the glory for a short time since he wasn't continually in the presence of God. If we have repented and asked Jesus to be Lord and Savior, He sends the Holy Spirit, who wants to be continually present in our lives. We still make the choice to allow Him control. Are we only willing when it's conve- nient? Or when we are des- perate? Or can we truly say that we are continually need- ful. The needier we know we are, the closer our relation- ship with God and the more glory we can reflect back to Him.
