Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598 had no postcards or notes this week. Winslow Patoka River was high at the beginning of last week but with no rain and the temps in the 90s, with the heat index of 100 plus, the river has gone down quite a bit. You can see the boat ramp entering the wa- ter. This was really great for the Clog the Patoka on July 13. I will talk about that event in next week's column. The weather people said a cold front was coming in but for only one or two days, where the heat index was down to the tem- perature, but after that, they will both rise again in- to the miserable heat again. Norm and I went out last Saturday, June 6, to buy a mower to cut our thick and strong blades of grass and we believe this mower will do the job. We hope. Kyana came down for a weekend visit with Laura and they spent most of Saturday afternoon with us as we all played 500 Rummy. The skeletons on Highway 57 are on the lake as the woman is in the boat and the man is on water skis. One day, Laura brought over a lady who wanted to meet the person who writes Sweets Column, which she reads all the time and loves it each week. So, we shook hands and she is such a lovely lady to meet. I'm a little behind on filling my hum- mingbird feeders and hanging them on the tree. But on July 10, I looked out the kitchen window and saw our first hummingbird. I hope there will be more. I have hung three feeders. At the Winslow Town Hall meeting, we all met Dennis Marshall, the sports editor for the Press-Dispatch. He will also cover meeting each month. We all welcome Dennis to Pike County and to all of the Winslow events, if he can come. Not too much going on to report about except those pesky mosqui- toes are still her and they could go away for good. So, as the lights begin to dim on this week, keep an eye on family and friends, and slow down in your neck of the woods. Always smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. Be kind.
