The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, July 17, 2019 C- 3 RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 2 Continued on page 7 Last Saturday was sort of a grumpy day for me. I had dreams all night which made me think too hard on some things which had happened years ago. I overcame it, but it is true that you can really mess up something called today by letting too much yesterday creep into your thoughts. I sometimes forget God has me in new stage of life and I have responsibilities to Him and the past is just that the past. There is lit- tle if anything you can do about your past but you can adjust, so your tomorrow can be the best it can be. We used my birthday discount last Wednesday evening at the Gastoff and I had 71% off which will make me 71 years old. We have lots of places for skeeters to hide and breed so I did my best to weed eat all the hillsides where they can get down closer to the ground and have water to hatch their young. They are so bad out here on the hill that many of them swarm you in a short time. I wonder if perhaps we could some help with community wide fogging. It would probably be expensive but if it kept someone from getting sick it would be worth it. I told you at the begin- ning of this article that I had several topics on my mind and here is another one. We see many ads on T V seeking help with their causes. Lots of them are le- git but my main concern with them is if they need money to do what they do, then why offer something free like a t-shirt or a pic- ture, just accept the dona- tions and don't use the do- nations for the frivolous give aways. We took in an Otters ball game Friday evening and sang in the Habitat choir which was lots of fun. We sang the National Anthem and at the seventh inning stretch we sang Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Both teams put on a good show with many great plays, but of course they made sever- al errors. It was fun watch- ing both teams play a hard fought game. Our Sunday sermon les- son concerned how to care for our fellow servants of God. We are to treat each with the respect each de- serves and to uplift one an- other even if some of our view points don't always agree, because they are fellow servants. Well you know the drill go out into the world and help someone daily, be a blessing and be blessed. Hamline Chapel Sunday, July 21 • 1:30pm Woolsey Band Homecoming 189 th SPEAKER: Rev. THE CHURCH ALIVE WORSHIP CENTER 506 N. 9th St. Petersburg Independent at church. "They turn, but they do not turn upward to the Most High. They are like a poorly crafted bow (that misses the mark)" is how Hosea 7:16 be- gins in the amplified. Trying to get to Heaven by just trying to be good is like using a warped bow. It doesn't work right. We need two things that only God provided: 1. The Perfect Bow - a per- fect sacrifice ( Jesus Christ) to take our punishment and remove our sin. 2. Practice - God to strengthen our arms with a helper (The Holy Spirit) to keep us on the narrow path. Are you ready to turn to the Most High? He's calling you to be His Child. Read Ephesians 3:14-19. "I ask that you'll know the love of Christ that is beyond knowledge so that you will be filled entirely with the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:19, CEB). The strength of the Spir- it, Christ dwelling in our hearts and the love of Christ are gifts that a pastor cannot give. These gifts come only from God through faith, not by our own efforts to achieve a special level of knowledge. God's love and presence are gifts given freely by God. That's something worth knowing. Thought for the day: God has gifts for us that only God can give. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. Jeff Pinney, Pastor So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that pass- es all understanding—He is in control. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. Fanfare over the moon landing's 50th an- niversary is sure to spark even more interest. Leaving behind earthly troubles and floating in ze- ro gravity must be amaz- ing, right? Not, it turns out, for one's body. Weightless- ness takes a heavy physical toll in space. Without resis- tance, muscles waste away and bones weaken. Bodily systems we take for grant- ed are disrupted, causing disorientation. To counter- act the effects, astronauts wear resistance suits while exercising. Ironically, after escaping Earth's gravity, Presbyterian
