The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, May 1, 2019 C- 3 MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m.; Youth group Monday evening at 6 p.m. Come vis- it us. Our doors are always open to you. Saturday of Holy Week is a strange day for the church. It's sandwiched between Good Friday, when Jesus died on the cross, and East- er, when he rose. Certainly, we know the truth and triumph of the resurrection, but until Jesus comes again, we're living in RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 2 Continued on page 10 works and that is the main thing. Their crawl space is decent sized but I am still sore from crawling around under there. Sunday school this week was about love and faith of Christians for Jesus and His followers. There are some people who believe that Jesus was all God and that He couldn't have possi- bly have died on the cross. Jesus was all man and all God and He took our sins on Himself as He gave his precious life for our sins. It is hard to comprehend why anyone would give His life for others especially for people He didn't know. If it wasn't for His death and resurrection we would have no hope of eternal life and a home in heaven. Our scripture lesson was about Peter being asked by Jesus if he loved Him more than he loved the other dis- ciples. Peter has previous- ly denied knowing Jesus three times the night be- fore the crucifixion and even swore the third time. When he heard that roost- er crow he knew he had let his friend down. I wonder how many times we have let Jesus down with our own down- falls and misgivings. Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him and each time Peter answered "you know I love you" and Je- sus told Peter three times to "feed my sheep." It ap- pears Jesus knew that Pe- ter would care for them to the best of his ability. Jesus had to reinforce the trust between Peter and the rest of the disciples and at the same time show Peter how trusted he was. Peter asked what was John going to be doing and Jesus told him in a few words not to worry about John just pay atten- tion to following what he had to do. There is no room for jealousy in the Kingdom of God because we must all work together to survive in this world. Well enough for now go out there and be blessing, NATIONAL DAY OF Prayer May 2 at Noon at the Pike County Courthouse "Love one another. Just as I have loved you." John 13:34 National Anthem - Sung by the Pike Central Swing Choir Pledge to the Flag - Chuck Froehle Greeting - Rev. Leon D. Pomeroy Opening Prayer - Pastor Jim Gidcumb Scripture - R.C. Klipsch, Mayor of Petersburg "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another" (John 13:34, KJV) Lord's Prayer - First Baptist Prayer of Repentance - Christina Priest from the Living Faith Church International. Prayer in Unison for the Nation - Father Frank Renner, Saints Peter & Paul O God, You are the one who gave us this promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14; "If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." As we pray for the United States, we are reminded by the very symbols of this great nation, to whom we truly owe our allegiance. Our pledge reminds us that we are "one nation under God" and the currency in our pocket states emphatically that it is "in God we Trust." Amen. Closing Prayer - Rev. Leon D. Theme Statement: Here is a scene which must have been printed forever on the mind of Peter the Apostle. Jesus' challenge to Peter is still a challenge for each of us today. It's not how much love we have, but rather what we do with it. There are three require- ments for restoration. 1. You must know the Love of God. 2. You must have Love for God. 3. You must share the Word of God. We will welcome you with open arms and an open heart. We are entering a new earthly season with a change in our surround- ings with longer and warm- er days. A time of refreshing. My prayer is that the church (body of Christ) would come into a new sea- son in their walk with God. That they would enter into His rest and find the time of refreshing and their spir- its renewed to be about the Master's business, seeking the lost, hurting and some- times helpless humanity. I believe if we begin to step out, we will begin to see an outpouring of the Holy Spir- it and it won't be long and we will be going home. Are you prepared to step up, step out and step into His calling? I pray that many of God's children realize it's time for revival in our lives and in our churches. May reviv- al fire begin to burn in our churches again and may the harvest come in. In God's Service. George Bruce, Pastor
