According to the players, Foothill is their biggest competition. We play really hard and we are very scrappy; we also have a lot of team bonding on the weekends which helps our team jell, said senior striker Riley Graham. Riley is currently the leading scorer for the Spartans averaging about 1.3 goals per game. It feels good being the leading scorer but I have been set up with a lot of great passes from my teammates all season, said Graham. The team agrees that passing and communicating are there strengths and say that they wouldnt be anywhere close to wear they are without their coach. When asking Riley about what she wanted from this season she simply replied, their goals, and beating their little weaknesses. Our best game was against Shasta when we beat them 9-0, but the game we played our best was definitely our scrimmage against PV where we tied 0-0, explained Sophomore Lilly Taylor. One reason the girls think they had done so good this season is because they worked together as one and didnt single anybody out, they also make sure that every girl has worked hard on their weaknesses that way they will feel comfortable on game day. The girls will also agree that their coach, Rachel Constantini, did a great job at teaching them how to do different things, supporting them through every practice and game, making sure they are all doing their best, but also making sure that they work together as a whole. We really get along with our coach, she was a really great coach and she brought us, as a team, and closer to one another, Lilly Taylor said. Their season isnt done yet, but the girls will still keep their heads up along with their confidence to give them a good lead in their new beginnings next season. I want a trophy, meaning she wants her team to win the championship. Closely related goals from senior mid-fielder Jackie Hollmer saying that her team expects to go all the way in playoffs this season. More people should come to our games, said Hollmer after a big win over Enterprise last week on senior night. At the game there was a first time student cheering section that was rooting on the Spartans all night. Jackie said that the fans helped a lot. By the end of the season Jackie hopes to be just and all around better player. Tabitha Gibson has been playing goal keeper for the past 3 years and is playing a big role on the team this year as starting goalie. Tabitha says that a big reason for the teams success is that Coach Carreras never gets down on them and is always positive. She also says that their pre-game huddle and prayer help out a lot also. Her goal this year is to get as many clean sheets as possible, meaning to not let the other team score once in a single game. The Spartans are currently first in league. Junior varsity girls soccer brings season to a close with an undefeated record Veronica Smith Staff Writer After a long season of hard work paying off and putting in so much effort, the Junior Varsity girls soccer team is proud to say they are undefeated in league for the whole entire season. Their last home game was Friday, February 8th. The boys played Foothill High School and they also beat them. Their very last game for the whole season is tonights game at Shasta High School. Coach Sinclair said, From where we started to where we are now, we have come a long way. The teams long-term goals from the beginning of the season were to be able to play their best basketball at the very end of the season and to have the best record, according to Joey Knight, starter forward, and Richie Borges, small forward. Even though the team might not have the best record in the league, they are still striving to complete their other goal by playing the best basketball they can in the last game of the year. Overall the team has won a total of 13 games and lost 9 games. In league, the team is 3-2. They are also the 3rd best in league out of the five teams. The highest score that they have gotten so far in a game was 67 points against McKinnleyville. In their lowest scoring game, they only scored 34 points. The boys are not required to practice after the season is over, but Coach Sinclair said that the kids who want to play will continue to play and be in the gym. Team player Greg Dufour had set and accomplished goals in the beginning of the season. He wanted to make his way to start, and just help out his team. Players feel like the team can improve immensely. They want to bring a lot more intensity to games and run through plays better. When asked what the team can do to improve, Sam Hendricks said, [we can improve] just fundamentally, we can never not get better. The players think they can improve individually, Emilio Soto says he can improve by making better passes. Other players will practice their skills on the off season and work out through the summer. Sam thinks the team needs better chemistry. If most of the team does move to the varsity team next year, they will be able to further their relationships as friends and teammates. The JV team should have great confidence in each other to prepare to take on the rest of the season and next years expectations that will come with becoming a varsity player.
