They return four of their five starters from the first team since 1997 to advance to the regional. Senior Noah Onyett led a one- two punch for the Chargers last year, along with Lincoln Vaughn. This year he is even better. "He doesn't really have any weaknesses," said Pike Central head coach Jarrod Gideon. "He hits it a long way, he hits his irons well. When he is putting well, he scores well. Last year, he missed a putt on the last hole that would have tied the school record," said Gideon. Onyett has already agreed to sign with Oakland City Universi- ty this spring to play golf. Onyett qualified as a sophomore for the regional individually. Then last year, the Chargers qualified as a team for the regional as Onyett shot a team low 80 at the Coun- try Club of Old Vincennes to lead the Chargers into the regional. He then shot an 85 at Country Oaks in the regional. "He knows if he shoots a score he is capable of shooting, he can get out of the regional and make it to the state finals," said Gideon. But Onyett isn't a one-man team. He has three other starters return- ing from last year's squad that shot a 335 for a team score, as all four players shot 87 or better. Seniors Hayden Kabrick and Austin Holder were both on that sectional team. Kabrick shot an 85 and Holder an 87. "They are kind of carbon copies of each other," said Coach Gideon. "They both hit it pretty well, they have pretty good short games. They are just nip and tuck with each other. Both were using ally in the mid to high 40s last year. We are hoping they can be low 40s this year." Jed Evans and Ben Hess round out the senior class for Pike Cen- tral. "Jed played some varsity matches. He was our sixth or sev- enth player. He really works hard on his game." "Ben has played all four years. He was learning the game as a freshman and sophomore, but he has really improved over the last two summers," said Gideon. Jaylyn Mills is a junior. As a sophomore last year, he played varsity all season. "He is a classic scrambler. He will hit a couple of loose shots, and then hit a good shot and get up and down for par. He is just a very laid back player." Sophomore Cutter Reed is ex- pected to break into the line-up. He played some varsity last year as a freshman, but his game has made big strides this year. "I think his scores will improve a lot," said Gideon. "He played a lot as a little guy with his family and then got away from it, but in the last year, he has fallen in love with it again and is playing a lot." Gideon is hoping that translates into lower scores. Two underclassmen, Hunter Taylor and Quinton Sorgius, also show potential. "Hunter has a re- ally good swing. He didn't get to play much varsity last year, but he can be a good golfer." "Sorgius also as a good swing and can play. They both just need to play more," said Gideon. With all the team's experience returning, Gideon is high on their potential. "I think this team could be a really good team.
