One of our Winslow stars, Don Bolin, passed on March 16 at age 77. To Rene and all of the family and friends, remember those precious moments of Don and share them with others. There were no postcards in the ol' mailbox at Sweets Column Winslow, Ind. 47598. A card did come in, though. This card has a young girl standing in a patch of flowers with trees in the back- ground. She is holding her hat as she watches a bird soar in the sky above her. The young girl is wearing a long orange and yellow dress, and the hat is in the same colors. The note reads, "Hi, Sweets! Greet- ings from Atlanta, Georgia. Janie Tor- mohlen." Thanks, Janie, for the card of "Summer Meadow." Hope you all had a great time. The Patoka River in Winslow was over its banks but not too bad. Now it's just below the rim. We have had some light rain Wednesday, March 20 but not much. That was also the day Spring began. Temps were in the fif- ties and at night in the thirties. Tues- day, March 19 was the In- diana state-wide Weath- er Awareness Drill, and here in Winslow, the si- rens were heard at 10 a.m. I saw our squirrel climbing the tree, and he is getting big. The Blue Jays and Cardinals are not as thick as last week, but still around. The trees are bloom- ing out nicely, and before long we will see those leaves. I looked at out lilac bush, and it has buds on it. It's going to be, in a few months, time to plant or sow the flower or vegetable seeds. Spring also starts the practice for the softball or baseball. The sign-ups have already began. You have to go on- line, so I hope you all have a computer to do that. Some don't have that piece of equipment. My mom, Mildred, didn't get to go home last Saturday, March 16, so she stayed one more week. On March 23, she may be able to go home if the con- tagiousness is not around. It's bronchi- tis. Shingles is so painful. I hope you never get it. If you do, I somewhat un- derstand what the pain feels like, and I know what it looks like. We have learned about some re- ally great news, and that is that Lin- da Nelson Daugherty is cancer free. When you see her around town, tell her congrats on her big news. Linda has kept her spirits up through the ma- ny months, and this is the news she needed to hear. Well the lights are about to dim on this week's ramblings of mine. Keep an eye on family and friends; slow down and see all the wonders all around your area. Be kind to one another, smile, wave and say hi to everyone you see this week.
