Salvation Army Bell Ringers will be at the Petersburg Hardware and Dollar General, so give what you can to serve families in Pike County. Postcards this week at Sweets Col- umn Winslow, IN 47598 were none in the ole mailbox. Winslow Patoka River is high and we have had some rain, and even one day last week, we had an inch of snow to wake up to. The Pike County Schools were closed but several other county schools were closed also. More and more yards have their Christmas decorations out and they all look great. It gave me a happy feel- ing and a smile came across my face. Arvle Wade was a guest for a day with a couple of stars here in Winslow, and he looks great and misses the ma- ny stars who he used to see. He is now at a place where they have helped him to get healthier. The Winslow Lions had their month- ly meeting last Thursday and we all roared loudly as we all sat down to a bring-in meal. It was all really deli- cious, so much we decided to take a nap, but we didn't. The gift exchange was a pick or take and, as always, it roared through the room. We did have loads of fun. Linda sent us all a note for all of us to read that showed she was there by Leroy smiling at each one of us, and yes he did at all 22 of us Lions and friends. It was great to see Lanora and Benny. The Winslow Winter Wonderland Saturday, De- cember 8 was a happening place where 6 -10 children came with their parents to see Santa and Mrs. Claus and got their picture taken while they told Santa what they would like under the Christmas tree. Homemade hot co- coa and cookies were enjoyed by all. If you missed this event, then come De- cember 15 to view all the displays of Christmas and get a picture with San- ta and Mrs. Claus from 3-5 p.m. Saturday my hubby had his 61st birthday, and it was enjoyable with family and friends all day long. One present he got from his daughter was 61 packs of chewing gum, so if you are looking for a pack of gum, Norm has them all. This present should last him till Christmas Day or maybe New Year's Day. We all had cake but no ice cream, but like he says "that's okay." Since many Christmas Parties are going on everywhere and the shopping for those presents or the food to bring may be taking up more of your time, try not to feel so stressed out, make the chore fun, and don't rush so much. If you don't finish everything up in one day, then plan it out for more calming days. So as the days draw near, slow down and have loads of fun and joy. This is also a time to reflect on just what Christmas is all about, it is the time to celebrate Jesus' birth in the city of Bethlehem with that bright star shining down to show them all the way. Norm says thanks for all the wish- es from friends. As the lights begin to dim on this week's ramblings, keep an eye on family and friends, and stay warm because the north wind is here for a few months. Always slow down, smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week. have replaced the fake snow and snow- men decor with fake spiderwebs from Halloween and bunnies from Easter. During my harrowing scary-base- ment plunge to aggregate Christ- mas splendor, I found plenty of holi- day items — just not all pertaining to Dec. 25. It was my children's idea — one that makes perfect sense, by my standards. We have always been a du- al-holiday home this time of year any- way. With my being Jewish, we've al- ways had menorah candles alongside the Christmas lights burning brightly in our home. What does adding a few Independence Day American flags and St. Patrick's day clovers hurt — espe- cially if it keeps me from returning to the scary-basement? We are most certainly decked out for the holidays — emphasis on the plural "s." Perhaps this year, I'll ask Santa for some scary-basement shelves.
