GREG ALLEN SIMMONS Greg Allen Simmons, 53, of Winslow, entered rest on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Evansville. He was born on Jan. 26, 1965, in Washington, to Jer- ry and Gayle (Nelson) Sim- mons. He graduated from Pike Central High School in 1983. He had worked at Jas- per Rubber and currently at Farbest Foods in Hunting- burg. He was a member of Winslow American Legion and past member of Winslow Eagles, and served on the Winslow Town Council from 2016 to present time. He was very proud of the fact he had obtained a Fresh Water Treatment License in the State of Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Katrinka (McKinney) Simmons; his children, Konner and Kee- gan Simmons; brother, Nel- son Simmons, of Winslow; father- and mother-in-law, Dale and Karen McKinney, of Winslow; sisters-in-law, Tammy Faries, of California, Stesha Staats, of Winslow, and Kesha Adams, of Oak- land City; brother-in-law, Jr. Staats, of Gentryville; niec- es and nephews, Joda, Kyle and Heather Staats, and Hol- ly and Tyler Simmons; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Vicky Staats. A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Winslow Church of the Nazarene, 205 Center St., Winslow, with Rev. Henry Nelson officiating. JENNIFER LYNNE DROF Jennifer Lynne Drof, 55, of Woodbridge, Va., died Mon- day, November 12, 2018, in Chesapeake, Va. She was born to John and Joyce Padgett Drof in Wash- ington, D.C., on February 23, 1963. She was a graduate of T.C Williams High School in Al- exandria, Va., and Virginia Tech. While living in Wood- bridge, Va., she worked at IKEA for 25 years and as a sales consultant for Rodan and Fields. She was a loyal and av- id Hokie fan. She loved ani- mals and enjoyed participat- ing in dog competitions with her sister and their Tollers. She is survived by her mom, Joyce Padgett Drof, of Petersburg; sister, Janna Drof, of Suffolk, Va.; broth- er, Jon (Dilek) Drof, of Me- chanicsville, Md.; and two nephews, Jay and Shane Drof, of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her father, John Drof. In lieu of flowers, dona- tions may be made to a chari- ty of your choice. She will be buried at Walnut Hill Ceme- tery in Petersburg. Per her wishes, she will be cremat- ed and there will be no pub- lic services. RONALD O. TR AYLOR Ronald O. Traylor, 86, of Jasper, passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Otwell on March 20, 1932, to Ow- en and Louie (Doades) Traylor. He married Eula Craney in May of 1958. He was a United States Air Force veteran, sta- tioned in Japan during the Korean War. He retired from the City of Jasper, where he was a Water Treatment Oper- ator. He was a member of Redemption Christian Church in Jasper, V.F.W. Post # 673, and a past mem- ber of the Jasper Moose. He loved spending time with family and friends, gardening and fishing, and enjoyed college basketball, as he was an avid I.U. fan. Surviving are his wife, Eula Traylor, of Jasper; one daughter, Jacque (Mike) Kemp, of Jasper; three grandchildren, Starla (Scott) Neidigh, of Wash- ington, Justin ( Jenny) Ser- mersheim, of Jasper, Trev- or Traylor, of Petersburg; and six great-grandchil- dren, Brycen, Brant, Ma- leigh, Ellie, Dylan and No- ra. Preceding him in death are one son, Ronald A. "Buster" Traylor; and three sisters, Hazel Buch- ta, Helen Weisheit and Garnett Whitehead. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, No- vember 23, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with Pastor Darrel Land offi- ciating. Burial will follow in St. Martin Cemetery in Whitfield, Ind. The V.F.W. Post # 673 will conduct mil- itary graveside rights. A visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Selby, 69, of Winslow, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Jas- per. She was born April 12, 1949, in Huntingburg, to Paul and Edith Deffendol. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her hus- band, Philip "Leo" Selby, of Winslow; one son, Jason Sel- by, of Winslow; four broth- ers; and one sister. She was preceded in death by one son, Vance Selby. Barker, 84, died on Saturday, Novem- ber 3, 2018, at the Univer- sity of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was born on April 18, 1934, in Petersburg, to Paul and Elaine (Bam- berger) Barker. He graduated from Petersburg High School and joined the U.S. Navy. Shortly after discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Kay Knowles, in 1955. They moved to Terre Haute, where he began his stud- ies at Indiana State Uni- versity, graduating with a degree in Speech and Language Sciences. He was an active mem- ber of the United Meth- odist Church in Paoli, Ind., and more recent- ly in the Leawood Unit- ed Methodist Church (LUMC). At LUMC, where he was a regular volunteer at the commu- nity Miracle Breakfast program at Parkwood Day School, he volun- teered on many church committees, attended many bible study classes and church events. He is survived by his daughters, Myra Barker, of Olympia, Wash., and Julie (Derrick) Barker House, of Leawood, Kan.; and a granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kay; and brother, James D. Barker. The family plans to hold a celebration of life service at 1 p.m. on January 27, 2019, at Leawood United Method- ist Church. CLETA "DEANIE" ARLENE GENTRY Cleta "Deanie" Arlene Gentry, 93, of Washington, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, November 15, 2018. She was born in Pike Coun- ty to the late Lawrence and Ida Mae (Fine) Willis. She had a zest for life and made friends everywhere she went. She attended Pe- tersburg High School and af- ter being married, moved to Washington. She was a life- time member of the Peters- burg VFW, the Washington Legion, and a member of the Moose Lodge of Washington. She also enjoyed playing Bun- co with the girls. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and also enjoyed var- ious church activities. She leaves behind three sons, Wilford Sherman, Lar- ry Sherman and Dean (Cin- dy Tharp) Gentry; five grand- children, Kerri Collison, Jeff Sherman, Brian Sherman, Kris Williams and Tony Sher- man; ten great-grandchil- dren, Garrett Collison, Ra- chel Collison, Jordan Sher- man, Mitch Sherman, Oliv- ia Sherman, Amber Cook, Abby Bratton, Shane Wil- liams, Briley Williams and A.J. Sherman; ten great- great grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Al- len Gentry; three sisters, El- oise Cannon, Elva Evans and Velma Arnold; and two broth- ers, Edgar and Edison Willis. Nalley, 85, passed into Heaven to spend eterni- ty with God and His only be- gotten son Jesus Christ our Savior. He was born on May 25, 1933, to Gaines and Rose Nalley. He graduated from Sten- dal High School in a class of nine. He married Marlene Sue (Lee) Nalley on July 12, 1957. He was a kind, loving and gentle soul. He was one of the fami- lies of the First General Bap- tist Church in Oakland City for the past 50 years, where he served as a Deacon, the Board of Trustees and as an usher for many years. He al- so served as treasurer of his Sunday School class, helped the elderly to winterize their homes, and helped many other people in need in ma- ny ways. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the President's Oak Leaf Society of Oak- land City University. Gladish, 51, well- known and highly respected Petersburg citizen, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, October 18 at the Good Samaritan hospital in Vin- cennes; John Kinder, 66, Wash- ington, died at the Welborn Bap- tist hospital, Evansville, at 5:12 a.m. Tuesday; Ezra L. Kerr, 75, Riverdale, Maryland, native of Pleasant Ridge community north of Winslow, died suddenly from a heart attack at 8:30 Sat- urday night in the home of Roy Erwin in Winslow; Leslie Tay- lor, 91, Petersburg, Alford road, died at 8 p.m. Friday, October 18 at his home from a stroke; Ben- jamin Everett Crow, of Coldwa- ter, Michigan, who lacked less than three months of reach- ing the age of 100, died Octo- ber 16; Mrs. Maude Davis, 79, one of Oakland City's most be- loved women, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday in the Welborn hospital from a heart attack; Funeral ser- vices for Mrs. Mary Scales of Oakland City were at 1 p.m. Fri- day at the Lamb Funeral Home. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS The Press-Dispatch Thursday, Oct. 21, 1993 A rural Petersburg youth sus- tained serious injuries when the car he was riding in slid in- to a semi-tractor trailer Tues- day morning, according to Pike County Sheriff William Scales. He said Freda S. Milford, 33, Petersburg, was driving west on Highway 56 about five miles west of Petersburg in "Shawhan Corners," when she lost control and slid across the centerline in- to the path of the semi, hitting it in the left front. Scales said the car then spun around and hit the rear dual wheel set on the trail- er and went off the side of the road. Milford's 12-year-old son William Rainey was a passen- ger in the car and sustained se- vere head and leg injuries, ac- cording to Scales, who added he did not now how serious the in- juries were. Milford sustained bruises and abrasions. Her 1986 Ford Escort wagon was a total loss and the semi-tractor sus- tained $1,200 damage. Milford was cited for driving left of enter. Pike Central's Lady Charg- er volleyball team escaped inju- ry last Wednesday night while returning home from Shoals when their corporation bus col- lided with two horses just west of Loogootee. Mark Russell stat- ed he saw the horses coming in the shadows and slammed on the brakes while attempting to stay on the road. The larg- er horse smashed the hood and slammed into the windshield, stopping just short of doing se- rious damage to Russell's hands on the wheel. Coach Elaine Bar- rett stated both horses were killed instantly. Russell stated the horses ran into the front of the bus from the other lane. Su- perintendent Mark Ransford and assistant superintendent Roger Sutton drove another cor- poration bus to the scene for the girls. Barrett reported there was some stiffness and soreness, but no injuries in the collision. The us damaged was the newest one the corporation owns. A large group of preschoolers were hanging on every word of Michael Meyer as he reads one of several stories to the young- sters last Friday at the Winslow Library. There are two more sto- ry hours at both the Winslow and Petersburg branches of the Pike County Library. Leathe Donohoo and Rebec- ca Riley of Petersburg were named to the dean's list at the Indiana Business College in Vincennes. Students must re- ceive a grade point average of 3.5 or above to qualify. Marty Simmons urged youngsters to read to them- selves or to others before pass- ing out posted and Jim Crews autographed miniature basket- balls while at Barrett Memorial Library last week.
