The Chargers defeat- ed North Knox 42-34, lost to Madison 51-30, defeated Wood Memorial 63-12 and de- feated Evansville Bosse 66 -9. Gordon, wrestling at 132 pounds, won two matches by pin – one in 29 seconds and one in nine seconds – and two matches by forfeit. Allen, wrestling at 182 pounds, won two matches by pin and one by forfeit. Allen also won a match by forfeit at 195 pounds. Henson, wrestling at 138 pounds, won two matches by pin and two matches by for- feit. Miller, wrestling at 126 pounds, won three matches by pin and one match by for- feit. "I couldn't be prouder of how we showed up to wrestle this weekend," first-year Pike Central head coach Ryan Mc- Cain said. The Chargers opened its first match of the day – against North Knox – with six consecutive wins by pin by sophomore Lane Potts at 113 pounds, sophomore Isa- iah Greer at 120 pounds, Mill- er at 126 pounds, Gordon at 132 pounds, Henson at 138 pounds and freshman Jon By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central High School senior Natalie Bohnert has excelled both in the pool and on the golf course during her high school career, hav- ing won six individual sectional titles – five in swimming and one in golf – while setting multiple school records in both sports. So when Bohnert began thinking about which sport she wanted to con- tinue with on the collegiate level, she found herself faced with having to make a difficult decision. "She was really torn whether she wanted to swim or whether she want- ed to golf," Pike Central head girls' golf coach Jarrod Gideon recalled. "She talked about it all year." Ed Cahill photo By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Junior Lauren Vaughn scored eight of her game- high 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Pike Central High School girls' basketball team rallied from a three-point defi- cit to defeat visiting Wood Memorial 52-44 on Friday, Nov. 16. Trailing 35 -32 with 7:31 left in the game, the La- dy Chargers scored six straight points – two by senior Hailey Marchino, two by Vaughn and two by sophomore Mallory Hick- ey – to take a 38 -35 lead with 5:17 remaining. A fter a three-point- er and a short jumper by senior Gretchen Reel boosted Wood Memorial ahead 40 -38, Vaughn hit a three-pointer to give Pike Central a 41-40 lead with 3:28 left. The Lady Trojans re- claimed a 42-41 lead on a pair of free throws by ju- nior Sydney Lamar, but Vaughn answered with a three-point shot – off of an assist from Marchino – and Hickey scored twice following back-to-back steals as the Lady Char- gers surged ahead 48 -41 with 2:07 remaining. A pair of free throws by senior Becca Crow – cap- ping a 12-2 scoring run – extended Pike Central's lead to 50 -42 with 45.5 sec- onds left. A fter senior Chloe Mow- ery scored to cut the defi- cit to 50 -44, junior Jayln Nelson hit two tries from the charity stripe to close out the scoring with 17.3 seconds remaining. A fterward, Lady Char- gers head coach Kyle Mc- Cutchan – whose team im- proved to 3-2 – was ecstat- ic. "Last year, other than three games, everything was a dogfight, and that's how it's going to be this year," McCutchan said. "We're going to be a good, competitive team. It's just executing. If we take care of the basketball and make plays down the stretch, we're going to pull those games out." "We're going to fight," McCutchan said. "They're going to battle. They're go- ing to scrap. I'm proud of the kids." A three-point play by ju- nior Jenna Horrall gave Pike Central a 3-0 lead with 6:45 left in the first quarter.
