Lange, a 6 -foot sophomore forward/center, made eight of 10 field goal attempts – in- cluding one three-pointer – while scoring 17 first-half points as the Lady Alices (5 -0) built up a 35 -12 half- time lead. Lange hit just one of five field goal attempts in the second half to finish the con- test 9 -for-15 from the floor, including 1-for-2 from be- yond the three-point line. "She's a nice player," said Pike Central head coach Kyle McCutchan, whose team slipped to 2-2. "She's got good size, good athlet- ic ability." Callie, a 5 -foot-6 sopho- more guard, was 5 -for-9 from the field – including three of six from three-point range – and 5 -for-5 from the free throw line to add 18 points for Vincennes Lincoln. Ali- son Hein, a 6 -foot-1 senior forward/center, pitched in 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. For the game, the Lady Al- ices made seven of 15 three- point shot attempts. "We knew we'd have trou- ble defending them," Mc- Cutchan said. "That's why we went more 2-3 zone and packed it in. But we didn't do a good enough job being physical. We had to be real- ly physical, and we couldn't quite compete tonight." Lange scored nine points in the first quarter as the La- dy Alices took an 11-4 lead. Following an exchange of free throws – one by Hein and one by Pike Central se- nior Hailey Marchino – at the start of the second peri- od, Vincennes Lincoln rolled off 11 straight points to open up a 21-5 lead with 4:47 left in the first half. During that stretch, Pike Central went 0 -for-4 from the field and turned the ball over three times. "We were just hesi- tant," McCutchan said. "I told them, 'I don't care if it takes two minutes to get a shot up – that's two minutes they can't score.' I think if we would have stayed pa- tient, we would have got a few things, but we didn't cut hard, we didn't set very good screens. What hap- pens is, you fall behind, so now you've got to be a lit- tle bit more aggressive with stuff. I want to be patient." "We had a little bit of a game plan against them, but we wanted to play how we play," McCutchan add- ed. "But we got out of what we wanted to do a little ear- ly, and they started hitting jump shots, and they're tough to beat. With their size, when they're hitting jump shots, they're going to be tough to beat." Baskets by senior Bec- ca Crow and junior Lau- ren Vaughn – sandwiched around a free throw by Hein – pulled Pike Central to within 24-9 with three minutes left in the second period. However, a pair of three-pointers by Foster- and one by junior guard Dar- rian Carmean sparked an 11- 3 scoring run that extended the Lady Alices' lead to 35 - 12 at the intermission. A fter a pair of free throws by Machino and a basket by junior Jayln Nelson at the start of the second half nar- rowed the Lady Alices' lead to 35 -16, Vincennes Lincoln scored 15 consecutive points – eight by Foster, three by Carmean and two each by Lange and junior forward/ center Victoria Jackson – to open up a 50 -16 lead with 2:40 left in the third period. Pike Central would get no closer than 27 points the rest of the contest. Nelson paced Pike Cen- tral with six points while sophomore Mallory Hick- ey and Vaughn added five points and four points, re- spectively. Marchino, senior Emily Carnahan and sopho- more Kenzie Powell netted three points each. Senior Kelsey Barrett came off the bench to grab a team-high three rebounds. For the game, the La- dy Chargers made 12 of 38 field goal attempts – a 31.6 percent average – and were 6 -for-8 from the free throw line while turning the ball over 17 times. Carmean added nine points for Vincennes Lin- coln, which out-rebounded Pike Central 24-15. For the game, the Lady Al- ices made 22 of 43 field goal attempts – a 51.2 percent av- erage – and were 13-for-20 from the free throw line while turning the ball over 12 times. "They've won every game by double figures, so we knew we had our work cut out for us," McCutchan said. "We knew their size was go- ing to give us trouble, but, you know, we had to bat- tle. And tonight we came out intimidated. We just didn't handle pressure very well and we struggled with it. We turned the ball over more than really what their pressure dictated." "We're aggravated that we got thumped," McCutchan added. "They whipped our butt. But we've got to bounce back. We've got to get better. We want to get to that level. We want to be able to com- pete with anybody, and, to- night, we didn't really com- pete." In the junior varsity con- test, freshman Kya Leighty scored a team-high nine points and freshman So- phie Carnahan added eight to lead Pike Central to a 36 - 31 victory over Vincennes Lincoln. Freshman Mallory Hunt added seven points as the Lady Chargers JV squad improved to 2-1.
