The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, April 11, 2018 C- 3 more abound…the for- giveness of sins, accord- ing to the riches of His grace… justified free- ly by His grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…by grace are ye saved, through faith" (Rom.5:20 ; Eph.1:7; Rom.3:24; Eph. 2:8,9). RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 MINUTES Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued from page 2 successful in many of our neighboring counties. If you know where we live in Crestview you know that we have a lot of trees in our yard and with ev- ery storm there is a fresh batch of debris to contend with but Friday there was a branch over our power lines that became very con- cerning. A fter talking with Duke energy a few times there was a work order written to assess the situa- tion. Around midnight Sat- urday morning they were at our home and the wind was blowing quite brisk at the time but after a half an hour they had the branch under control and were on their way. A good bunch of guys were on this job and I thank them for their help because it allowed me to re- lax from being concerned about the whole neighbor- hood being without power, so good job, guys. Ever sat down to read your Bible and a verse of scripture just seemed to speak to you. As I was working on Sunday's ser- mon I noticed Romans 8:28 saying that we were called according to God's pur- pose and I pondered about what purpose is He speak- ing of and then it hit me. Our purpose is to build the Kingdom, but also be there for God's people to uplift one another and to provide encouragement during our Christian families' trying times. If everyone would adhere to God's word and do this the world would be easier to put up with. Nev- er forget even though we don't understand totally what God does at times. He is there for us, shouldn't we be there for His children? Better bring this arti- cle to a close because I do have a tendency to ram- ble on just like the name of this column suggests so be blessed and be a blessing. Have you ever woken up with that voice in the back of your mind that says, "Boy, I didn't do right last night"? You look back at the night before and are stung with regret and new resolu- tions to do better next time. Then it gets dark again, and you meet up with the same friends, and your regrets and resolutions melt away because you're with friends, and they're doing the same things you are—nothing changes. A fter I became a follower of Jesus, I put those old ways behind me. Not that I'm perfect now—far from it. But my heart is now set on God and I'm walking in His direction, not my old paths. PR AYERS: "Father, keep us humble by letting us re- member not only what You've done for us, but where we came from. Let us walk in Your paths so we can help others follow You too"—In Your name, Amen. David Walton, Pastor Hope Barnett, Reporter SPURGEON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 11505 N. Holding us together As evangelist Louie Giglio was winding down a Passion Movement tour in Texas, a molecular biologist came up to introduce himself. Giglio mentioned he was heading home to Atlanta to preach some sermons about the glory of God in the human body. When the scientist discov- ered that Giglio needed a big "hook" for the talks, he be- gan describing laminin, a cell-adhesion molecule that holds the body's membranes together. The scientist en- couraged Giglio to go home and look up laminin on the Internet. When the image appeared on his screen, Giglio was amazed. The molecule that literally holds people togeth- er is in the shape of a cross! Giglio immediately thought of Paul's words about Jesus in Colossians 1:17, "in him all things hold together." The next time your life seems to be falling apart, look up an image of laminin. Then remember that Jesus holds you together through his victory over death on the cross. The Weight of the Glass A psychology professor walked around on a stage while teaching stress man- agement principles to an auditorium filled with stu- dents. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the typical "glass half empty or glass half full" question. Instead, with a smile on her face, the professor asked, "How heavy is this glass of water I'm holding? " Students shouted out an- swers ranging from eight ounces to a couple pounds. She replied, "From my per- spective, the absolute weight of this glass doesn't matter. It all depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a min- ute or two, it's fairly light. If I hold it for an hour straight, its weight might make my arm ache a little. If I hold it for a day straight, my arm will likely cramp up and feel completely numb and par- alyzed, forcing me to drop the glass to the floor. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn't change, but the lon- ger I hold it, the heavier it feels to me." "Your stresses and wor- ries in life are very much like this glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit lon- ger and you begin to ache a little. Think about them all day long, and you will feel completely numb and par- alyzed—incapable of doing anything else until you drop them." The moral: It's important to remember to let go of your stresses and worries. No matter what happens during the day, as early in the eve- ning as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the night and into the next day with you. If you still feel the weight of yesterday's stress, it's a strong sign that it's time to put the glass down. "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you" (I Peter 5:7, NLT). We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter
