Crash leads to OVWI arrest, two others arrested for drunken driving By Andy Heuring Crashing into a guardrail on Highway 64 led to the ar- rest of one person and two others were arrested in Pike County over the last week for drunken driving. Chad Allen Norris, 31, of 1868 N. SR 257, Otwell, was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated (refusal) and driving while suspended. Pike County Deputy Sheriff Paul Collier said at about 8:10 p.m. Monday, July 11, he was on a traffic stop when a passing mo- torist stopped and told him about a wreck just west of him on Highway 64. Collier said he went to the area and found Norris standing in front of a red Kia that had been going west, hit a guardrail and spun around. He said Norris failed field sobriety tests. Deputy Col- lier said Norris refused a blood test and became bel- ligerent with police and the EMS crew. He was arrested and taken into custody. A Winslow man was ar- rested on Tuesday, July 12, after he was stopped at about 5:30 p.m. for driving left of center. Deputy Collier said Pe- tersburg Police Cpl. Scott Wright had stopped Troy Sharp, 51, of 2823 CR 150 S., Winslow, on Highway 61, just north of Winslow. Deputy Collier assisted Cpl. Wright, who said when he approached the vehicle, Sharp had an open bottle of whiskey in the front of the vehicle and smelled of al- cohol. Sharp failed field sobri- ety tests and was transport- ed to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.15 per- cent for blood alcohol con- tent. The legal limit in Indi- ana is 0.08 percent. A rural Petersburg man was arrested after he went to help his daughter, whose car had broken down early last Wednesday. Gerald Gene Bolin, 45, of 1271 N. SR 61, Petersburg, was arrested on a charge of drunken driving. State Trooper John Da- vis said at 7:05 a.m., he was dispatched to check on a re- port of an abandoned SUV on Highway 56 near CR 800 E. He said when he ar- rived, there were two vehi- cles there. Bolin walked up to him and said his daugh- ter's vehicle had broken down and he drove there to help her. He asked if Trooper Da- vis could call a wrecker ser- vice, which he did. Davis said while he was talking to Bolin, he could smell the odor of alcohol and noticed him stagger. Bolin said he had not had anything to drink that day, but had drank the night be- fore. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.15 percent for blood alcohol content. Bolin was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
