Stam Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin The New Age religion may show up at school, work or even in the Christian church. It may catch you by surprise. The New Age ideas are poison, but contain enough truth to deceive many people. It is hard to define or narrow down the be- liefs of this religion. It is a vast smorgas- bord of beliefs and practices. To begin with the New Ager's believe God is in everything. This is called pan- theism. They say man is God and the mind creates reality. New Ager's do not believe in the existence of evil. They do not accept man's problem as separation by sin from God. They seek a higher con- sciousness through meditation, breath- ing exercises, yoga, diet, crystals, chan- neling, spirit guides and more. Many New Ager's are Universalists, believing all paths lead to God. The very heart of their religion is self-centerdness. They believe they can become a god. The roots of this religion have spread around the world and they adapt some of most religions into their belief system. The New Ager's like to depersonalize Je- sus by speaking of a cosmic Christ that permeates the uni- verse. They believe that Jesus was one among many great teachers. The Bible teaches that Jesus is the on- ly way and the truth and the life – ( John 14:6), The message of the Christian faith must always point people to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Our world today is filled with many cults and false religions. The Bible must be the source of our beliefs and Christ must be our personal Savior. Many young peo- ple are being introduced to cults in high school and colleges. It is important that both parents and the church teach young people what to believe. For some years a little girl passed our window at Berean Bible Society each day on her way to and from school. Every time she passed she would smile, wave and throw a kiss. Occasionally she would come in to tell me something special, and I was always impressed by her natural refinement. One would not have wished to meet a sweeter child. One day she came in to show me a picture of herself, all dressed up for her "first com- munion! " "How pretty! ", I exclaimed. "But do you know what happened at the very first communion supper? " "Yes," she said, "they killed Him." "That's right," I agreed, "but there's much more than that." She had given me a wonderful opportu- nity to breathe into her little ears, what St. Paul calls "the preaching of the cross", "the power of God unto salvation to every one that believet." If only we could persuade all of our read- ers of "the truth of the gospel", (I Corinthi- ans 15:3), and that "by Him all who believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the Law of Moses" (Acts 13:39). This is why St. Paul could tell the trembling Philippian jailor: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31).
