HOOSIER NATIONAL FOREST The Hoosier National Forest offers several other campgrounds with differ- ent amenities, including Ce- lina Lake Campground that provides hot showers, wa- ter, fishing, hiking, swim- ming and boating, but no kayaking or rafting is al- lowed. The campground has two sections. All sites on the South Slope have electric hookups, while the North Face is mostly non-electric. Both loops are heavily wood- ed. The rate for non-electric sites are $20 per day and $27 per day with electric. It's lo- cated just off south SR 37. The address: 20230 Indi- an Lake Access Rd, Saint Croix, IN 47576. LINCOLN STATE PARK Located on the Spencer and Warrick county line, Lincoln State Park consists of 1,747 acres and was estab- lished in 1932 as a memori- al to Nancy Hanks. The park has too many amenities to list. We enjoy the day use lake for swimming and kay- aking. They also have some good easy hiking trails in the park and 10 cabins — if sleeping under the stars is not your thing. A full site hook-up that includes elec- tric and water is $ 30 per day on the weekend and $23 per day from Sunday through Thursday. Non-electric is $19 on the weekend and $16 from Sunday through Thurs- day. Primitive camping is $12. The address: 2940 E. South St., Lincoln City, IN 47552. HARMONIE STATE PARK Located in Posey Coun- ty near New Harmony, the beautiful scenery, a friend- ly atmosphere and excit- ing recreation areas make this an ideal place for camp- ing. The Wabash River pro- vides the backdrop to roll- ing hills in the camping ar- eas. The state park is locat- ed approximately 25 miles northwest of Evansville and four miles south of New Har- mony. Picnic areas are locat- ed in scenic areas through- out the park. The facilities include a 200 -site family campground with electri- cal hookups and modern re- strooms, and a youth group area in a more primitive setting. The park also has a swimming pool, boat ramp and offers canoeing, fishing, hiking, kayaking and a play- ground. There are 200 RV sites and 200 electric sites, along with 11 cabins. PIKE STATE FOREST Pike State Forest, located near Winslow, offers scenic vistas from hilly uplands to the low bottomlands of the Patoka River. Several rec- reational opportunities are available at Pike State For- est, include camping, hunt- ing, horseback riding, pic- nicking, bird watching and hiking. Primitive camping is available. Campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Self-reg- istration is required. Pit toi- lets and seasonal drinking water are available. There is a picnic table and grill locat- ed on each site. Eleven sites are available in the primi- tive family camping area and 25 sites are located in the Horseman's Campground. FERDINAND STATE FOREST Ferdinand State Forest, just outside Ferdinand, pro- vides one of the most beau- tiful woodlands in Indi- ana. There are five popular trails to hit for biking and hiking, all averaging two miles. A beach swimming area at Ferdinand Lake is a refreshing way to cool off after a few hours on the trail. Bring your kayak and fishing pole, too. Primitive camping is available. The ar- ea has toilets, a shower and drinking water. You can register at the campground check-in booth. More rug- ged campers will enjoy the serene waters and the lack of noise pollution. Campsites are $13 a day. The address: 6583 East State Road 264, Ferdinand, IN 47532. For more info: 812-367-1524. FREE PASSES TO STATE PARKS By the way, to help celebrate Indiana's Bicentennial, public libraries and the state's De- partment of Natural Resources have teamed up to offer pass- es for free admission to state parks. The passes have to be checked out like books, and there are other rules govern- ing their use, but contact your local library for more inforo- mation. LARRY L. POWELL Larry L. Powell, 75, of Ot- well, passed away at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Dea- coness Hospital in Evans- ville. He was born in Waverly, Ky., on July 1, 1941, to Wil- lie Norris Powell and Loree (Hunter) Powell. He mar- ried Shirley Breidenbaugh on September 17, 1966, in Iva Union Church in Ot- well, Ind. Larry graduated from Selvin High School Class of 1959. He attended a techni- cal school in Evansville. He retired from Kimball Elec- tronics after 42 years and is a member of the Otwell Wes- leyan Church. He enjoyed doing wood- working and gardening. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Powell; two sons, Lane Kendall, of Miami, Ok- la., and Ryan Kent Powell, of Otwell; two grandchildren, Brandon Powell and Kaley Powell; two sisters, Helen ( John Jr.) Shuck, of Arkan- sas, and Wilma Clark, of Ow- ensboro, Ky.; four brothers, Kenneth ( Joanne) Powell, of Menomonee Falls, Wisc., Jerry (Marlene) Powell, of Dale, Darrell LaVonne) Pow- ell and David (Alice) Powell, both of Holland, Ind. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and George Powell. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Ju- ly 26, 2016, at the Bech- er-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with Rev. Roy Stil- well officiating. Burial will be in the Iva Public Ceme- tery in Otwell. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Richeson, 51, of Princeton, entered rest on Monday, July 11, 2016, at his home. He was born on July 23, 1964, in Princeton, to Har- old and Carolyn Sue (Lem- mons) Richeson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Amanda (Ettleman) Rich- eson, of Princeton; children, Jarrod (Ashley) Richeson, of Chesterton, Amber Rich- eson, and Preston and Kay- lan Workman, all of Prince- ton; a grandchild; and a sis- ter, Robin (Bill) Folsom, of Francisco. Funeral services were Fri- day July 15, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Andrew Johnson officiating. Burial was in Augusta Cemetery. LAWRENCE LAYDEN LONG Lawrence Layden Long, 85, of Petersburg, passed away at his home early Tues- day morning, July 12, 2016. He was born on Novem- ber 12, 1930, in Washington, Ind., to Laurence and Hallie M. ( Whaley) Long. He married his first wife Nancy L. ( Wood) Long, and she preceded him in death in 2012. He was also preced- ed in death by his second wife, Diane ( Willis) Long. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was a Mason, Shriner, and a member of the local American Legion. For many years, he worked as a ware- house manager for Hallibur- ton Services. Surviving family includes five children, Debra (Kevin) Spencer, Joseph (Sarah) Long and Cathie Whitney, all of Petersburg, Kevin ( Jo- anne) Long, of Vernal, Utah, Sarah (Patrick) Byrne, of Jasper; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Walker: one son, Lawrence "Larry" Long: and five sib- lings, Warren, Jerrell, Gro- ver, Regina and Ramona. She was born Dec. 8, 1926, to Louie and Ollie Sharp. She married Samuel Robert (Bob) Stucy and he preceded her in death. She was a member of Winslow High School Class of 1944. He was employed with the United States Postal Ser- vice, and served as a Navy veteran. He was a member of Winslow High School Class of 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ronald Rainey; a son, Jef- frey Scott Rainey; and two stepsons, Dale Mason and Frank Genco. On Thursday, Luella went to her daughter, Sharon Wil- liams' home to get her hair done and then met for lunch with Sharon's grandchil- dren, Caden and Rylan Wil- liams. Also joining them was Luella's other daughter Nina Holderbaugh. Luella wrapped up her week with a fish sandwich and a piece of cobbler from the fair that was delivered to her by her nieces, Jenny and Jean Ann. Luella says, "noth- ing beats a good 'ole fair fish sandwich! " Dessi Waple and her sis- ter-in-law, Jennifer Waple, attended a movie in Evans- ville on Thursday evening. Jane Hartzburg visit- ed with her mother, Peg Hyneman, of Hazleton, last week. Nancy Wheatley has been in the hospital this past week. Margie Wheeler is thrilled to be back home in Hazleton. Her son, Bob, stops by daily to check on her and her other son, Bill, stops by on Sunday for a vis- it. Theresa Loveless went with Sharon Byrnes explor- ing out in the country and the State Forest. Sherry and Richard Kin- ney, of Evansville, took a two week vacation before school starts. BARTON NEWS Marvin and Sue Ellen Barton and their son, Der- ek Barton, attended the Ot- ters baseball game in Evans- ville on Saturday. Sue Ellen reported that Norma Lee (Morrison) Bodkins, a 1949 Mt. Olym- pus graduate, passed away last week. Marvin and Sue Ellen attended the visitation. On Thursday, they met their friends, the Bra- seltons', at the fair for fish sandwiches. On Friday, Leon and Alice Whittington attended the fu- neral for Joey Richeson at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City. The Hazleton United Methodist Church is host- ing a birthday reception for Hazel Collins who will cel- ebrate her 97th birthday soon. The celebration will be on Sunday, July 24 at the church. Sharon Rumble is now re- covering from a recent ill- ness. She enjoyed a visit from her sister, Patty Sher- man and Patty's grand- daughter, Maddie. Sally Turner also visited with Sha- ron last week with Patty and Steve Sherman and Richard and Sandy Melton. Misti and Quincy Col- lins visited with Jenny Col- lins last week. On Thurs- day, they took Jenny shop- ping and to the fair. Mitch, Heidi and Brody Breidenbaugh visited with Ray and Martha Breiden- baugh for lunch on Thurs- day. On Saturday morning, Dessi Waple and her friend left for Chicago to attend a Chris Tomlin concert. They spent the night there and came home on Sunday af- ternoon. Marylee and Denver Sul- livan enjoyed great-grand- son, Creek Sullivan, 11, vis- iting last week. They went to Morgan and Andrew Car- ico's home where they had a party for Creek's birthday. Jim and Inez King went to Inez's eye doctor in India- napolis this past week. Their daughters, Cindy Wyatt and Terri Merle drove them. Ollie and Sue Double- mount visited with her sis- ter and brother-in-law, Jim and Marilyn K. Dickerson. A fterwards, they enjoyed dinner at the store in Union. Isaac True spent last week at Camp Challenge Church Camp near Bedford. He had a fantastic time and said he wished camp lasted all sum- mer. Isaac, 9, is the son of John and Melissa True. Esther Pancake's grand- son, Brody, visited her for a week recently. She had a great time!
