Page 9 Finalist panel's comments: These pictures cover a tragic event in a sensitive way. The photographer stuck with the story over time and made a series of compelling pictures. Division panel's comments: Photographer did a great job of visual storytelling with what looks to be a devastating fire. Not only did the photographer show the impact on the residents, but on firefighters and law enforcement. Great use of light and telling details. Category judge's comments: A fantastic example of brilliantly composed photos that tell a story and convey strong emotion. An easy choice for No. 1. Photo of the Year The Star Press (Muncie) Division 5 Fatal multiple picture group Jordan Kartholl Three-year-old Clayton Carnes died in a house fire in Muncie. Firefighters were able to quickly contain what was described as a sudden and intense fire that consumed the one-story structure. The child's mother, a man who was also in the home and a 14-month-old child escaped with non-serious injuries.
