Page 46 Best Feature Photo/Category 19 First place Stuck Bob Wellinski The LaPorte Herald-Argus Comments: This subject's predicament made me laugh. Features are a chance to show the lighter and brighter hap- penings in our community. Second place Jim Tom Russo Daily Reporter (Greenfield) Comments: The juxtaposition of the happy face and bored face make this photo snicker worthy. The photographer cap- tured an interesting moment of community life. This is a good example of what a feature photo should be. Third place Tug Dave Weatherwax The Herald (Jasper) Comments: Great expression and composition make this one a winner. Best Multiple Picture Group/Category 20 First place Bridge demo Ken Ritchie The Madison Courier Comments: This group of photos does an excellent job of describing the overall scene, the details and the result. It tells the story quite simply, yet complete. Second place Speedway Sam Householder The Goshen News Comments: A hot summer night at the local stock car races. The smells, dust, noise, good friends. This group of photos puts me there. Third place Persistence Rachel Mummey The Herald (Jasper) Comments: The selection of these photos is effective in describing this girl's battle to succeed in the face of adversity. Best Still Photo Story with Audio or Video Story/Category 21 First place Soldier Santa Surprises Mom James Tew The News-Sun (Kendallville) Comments: This is a great story where everyone is in on the secret but the subject. A change in the edit to increase the drama would be to have the reveal happen about 15 sec- onds before the end. Most viewers will shed a tear or at least crack a smile watching this story. Second place Neighbors: Samantha Williams Staff The News-Sun (Kendallville) Comments: The subject is very articulate and tells her story well. This project had the best production values of all the entries. Third place Madison-Milton Bridge Boom Seth Grundhoefer, Evan Shields & Ken Ritchie The Madison Courier Comments: This entry had a more relaxed approach to telling the story. The viewer feels like they are at the event experiencing it for themselves. Division 4 A 700-foot central span of the old Madison-Milton Bridge will be the first section of the bridge to be taken down as part of a larger replacement project. A young boy calls for help as he realizes he is stuck in the bucket he was sitting on while pick blueberries at Blueberries of Indiana, near LaPorte, Ind.
