Stam In "the gospel of the grace of God" we find a striking paradox: God Himself condemning the righteous and justifying the wicked; for- saking the perfect and helping evildoers. Behold the spotless Lamb on Calvary as He cries, "My God, My God, why hast Thou for- saken Me? " Judas kisses Him in base betrayal; wicked men spit in His face, mock Him, smite Him, scourge Him, crown Him with thorns and nail Him to a tree! And God, the Judge of all, does nothing to stop them! Indeed, He Him- self unsheathes His sword and smites the one Person in all history who could truly say, "I de- light to do Thy will, 0 my God." And this is not all, for on the other hand God saves Saul of Tarsus, Christ's bitterest enemy, "a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injuri- ous," his hands dripping, as it were, with the blood of martyrs. To him God shows "grace… exceeding abundant" and "all longsuffering" (I Tim. 1:13-16). Indeed, He sends him forth to proclaim openly to all men that: Our culture is no friend of the Gospel. As we move farther into the 21st Century there are constantly new attacks on Christianity. These attacks come from a liberal elite media, politi- cians, ACLU and even from within the church. Our family values, the sacredness of human life and standards of morality are all threat- ened. In education, government, and enter- tainment the favorite pastime is bashing the church and those who still believe the Bible. The Christian church is still the most pow- erful source of love, compassion and service to mankind. Whenever there is a disaster like 9/11, Katrina or the earthquake in Hai- ti Christians usually arrive first to help and stay when others leave. The Catholic and Prot- estant churches are always on the front lines to assist those in need. We see governments and entertainers pledge money, but it often ar- rives late and is spent on red tape. Many struggle while waiting for help to come from secular or- ganizations and govern- ments. The church was nev- er intended to be a so- cial agency but to pro- claim the Gospel and make disciples. As a part of Christian ser- vice, they often give the most and serve the longest. Christians care and respond to needs regardless of race, creed, or location. When we hear churches whose message is social justice it usually indicates they have only half of the message of our Lord. First and fore- Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas Greetings readers, how are you all doing? This has been another slower week as far as news goes so we may have to scratch and dig to come up with anything very interesting to write about. My eldest son and his wife have bought a new Toyota Prius. It is a pretty car, but at one of their many Lions meetings another lady backed into it and they have had it in the re- pair shop for the body work. My daughter-in- law needed us to help her get to work a cou- ple of days. Always glad to help my kids if they need us. This would be a much nicer world if we would all help one another whenever we are needed. I went to get my new glasses and we were all surprised when we found a pair of sunglasses so we went back to company to try again. They were good looking glasses but there isn't much need to wear sunglasses all the time. I received the results of my CT scan and it seems as though the covid virus has left me with some left over inflammation and scar- ring in my lungs. It sounds like if I keep up with my exercising it might get better. I try to walk on my treadmill for about 20 minutes each morning and it is harder when you have to pay such close attention to your breathing. It does seem to be getting a little easier or I'm getting used to it. One day I repaired a soap tray in our shower and I reminded myself of a cartoon my friend Cal Biddle sent me one time; "How many re- tirees does it take to change a light bulb? " Just one but it takes him all day. My schedule went something like this: 1 de- termine what tools I need, 2 take a break, 3 wire brush the tray mount, 4 take a break, 5 open package with new tray, 6 take a break, 7 attach new tray, 8 get wife's approval, 9 go take a nap before picking up 3 or 4 tools you used. We finished up tearing down the displays in the park by working about four and a half hours on two different days. We had some new helpers working with us and maybe they will help next year because all help is appreciated. We had a chance to get some of the totes we had filled at my mother's house and took some stuff to the Goodwill store at Washington. We have so many trinkets and what nots that we are running out of room. I have some antiques in the old house that need some help, but they are worth fixing. We just don't have the room for much more. We would like to keep some of them but it just isn't possible. Give me a call if you are interested in anything. We have one cabinet which is glassed, where Smile With Confi dence Again! Dr. Haviland Watkins DMD Dr. Kenneth R. Trout- man DDS, FAGD 202 E. 17th Street HUNTINGBURG 812-683-2006 11 E. Our grandkids stayed over night on Satur- day so their daddy could celebrate his birth- day. I was the only one stirring around early enough to get ready for church. At Cup Creek, Rich brought a good message about stop try- ing to get the word of God line up with your life. Instead we must line up with the word of God. I thank God for the desire to worship and for the inspiration to live as He needs me to do. As a last minute thought I would like a repre- sentative of all the organizations in Pike Coun- ty to talk to me about their plans for 2021 so we won't be scheduling events on the same days. This would be good for all of us. Well I challenge all of us to be a blessing to all next week and tell someone about Jesus anytime you get the chance.
