Poplar Street, Petersburg Charger eighth grade nips Wood Memorial The eighth grade Chargers claimed a 45 -42 win over vis- iting Wood Memorial when Drew Dawson popped a three bagger for the last score with 43 seconds remaining. Bren- ton Fryrear got a 40 -39 lead for the Chargers with 1:45 to go, and then a rebound by Jake Pauw and a Wood foul sent Barrett Cooper to the line for two and a 42-39 advantage with 1:14 remaining. Wood's Talon Strickland connected on a clutch three pointer to knot things up at 42 all with the clock at 1:03. Dawson's three bagger broke the tie and held up with Wood taking a final shot after a time out with six seconds left in the game. Houston Schoonover was the game's leading scorer with 15 points and Charger Drew Dawson was good for 14. Oth- er Charger scorers were Bar- rett Cooper 11, Brenton Fry- rear eight, Jake Pauw six, Randy Meece four and Ryan Whann two. Wood Memori- al scorers included Garrett Parke with 12, Memmer 11, Braden Nikeum 3 and Jared Stoltz one. Grapplers best Princeton 45-30 Nine Pike Central wres- tlers notched a 32-15 record in matches at the Forest Park Invitational this past Saturday. Coach Caleb Cherry said, "I'm very happy with their perfor- mance. They definitely came out ready, knowing this was the last time on the mat for a while. We had a rough couple matches this week and they wanted to redeem themselves. Several kids stepped up to set the tone and lead. They've worked hard all year and it's good to see them getting some reward for that." Coach said the team notched a 45 -30 win over Princeton, with "Skylar Shel- ton (160) pinning his opponent (Quintin Wilkerson) in one minute and 30 seconds into the first period. Kale Speedy (132) lost by pin 1 minute and 45 seconds into the second pe- riod and Cody Davis won by a 7-5 decision over Kameron Berry." Griffin Boyd (120) finished 4-1 with two forfeits, pins against North and North Knox and a loss to Forest Park. Ry- an Gladish collected two quick pins with Princeton and North Knox, one forfeit, a loss to North by pin and a technical fall to Forest Park. Jon Cannon (145) had a loss to South Spencer but pinned his opponents from Princeton, Forest Park, North Knox and added a 7-1 win with Evans- ville North. Jackson Stuckey (152) was 5 -0, with quick pins with Princeton, Forest Park and North and a forfeit with South Spencer. Skylar Shelton (160) was 3- 2 on Saturday, with two quick pins, a forfeit and two loss- es by pin to South Spencer and Evansville North. Isaac Shimer (170) had two losses by pin, with South Spencer and Evansville North, and for- feits with Princeton and For- est Park. Kale Speedy (182) recorded wins by pin against North Knox and South Spen- cer, a Forest Park Forfeit and an overtime loss at North af- ter a 7-7 tie. Corey Goeppner (195), was 5 -0, with early falls against Princeton and North, plus forfeits from Forest Park, North Knox and South Spen- cer. Cody Davis (220) won his Princeton match by 7-5 over Kameron Berry, took a forfeit for Forest Park and fell by pin to South Spencer and North. Evansville North claimed a 60 - 18 win with Corey Goeppner (195) and Griffin Boyd (120) winning by pin, and Jon Can- non (145) and Jackson Stuck- ey (152) winning by decisions. Jillian Bailey takes two firsts The Lady Titan swim team lost two close one's at Tecumseh on Sat- urday to Gibson Southern (119) and Tecumseh (112) with their 96 -point total. The Charger boys finished with 77, bettering Tecumseh's 57, but fall- ing to the Titans with 131. The Char- gers claimed just four firsts between the boys and the girls, but racked up 12 seconds and five third place finish- es against the Braves and the Titans. LADY CHARGER FINISHERS Jenna Meyer secured the one-me- ter diving win for the Lady Char- gers with a 199.20 score and Tessa Vinnedge took fourth (119.60). Jil- lian Bailey won the 50 free in 27.95, with Avery Hunt sixth (31.20). Bailey added a win in the 100 back (1:10.28), with Maddy Riley right beside her in second (1:10.74). Maddy Riley, Em- ma McKinney, Jenna Meyer and Jil- lian Bailey teamed for second in the 200 medley relay, just .04 seconds out of first, with a 2:14.59 clocking. Av- ery Hunt, Shelby Keeker, Taylor Os- walt and Addy Russell placed fourth in 2:26.22. Bailey, Riley, McKinney and Addy Russell ( Jenna Meyer) clocked 2:00.44 for second place in the 200 free relay. Avery Hunt, Addy Russell, Jenna Meyer, Maddy Riley (Emma McKinney) clocked 4:43.43 for third in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Kayla Gladish, Sarah Fenwick, Gabby Col- lins, Ella Adams (Shelby Keeker, Mor- gan Sallee) were sixth in 5:23.04. Emma McKinney took second in the 200 IM (2:47.14) and Taylor Os- walt was sixth in 3:15.20. Oswalt Av- ery Hunt was fourth in the 100 free (1:10.12) and Addy Russell was fifth (1:11.40). Sarah Fenwick was fifth in the 200 free (2:52.33) and Gabby CHARGER SWIMMERS NIP TECUMSEH Isaac Burdette gets a good start in the 50 free on Saturday.
