downtown Terrace The Downtown Terrace is an example of Petersburg's success with Stellar Communities. They started the project as part of the 2012 Stellar Communities application. After learning they were not selected a Stellar Community, Petersburg kept working and were able to fund and begin a project that brings solutions to downtown Petersburg. Three condemned buildings and a huge eye sore have been cleaned up, and they will be replaced by a building housing an urgent care facility, retail space and 41 senior housing units. This will greatly improve the availability of health and housing for seniors. Pike County ranked 91st in accessibility to health care out of 92 Indiana counties. Several studies also showed there was a lack of housing for seniors. It is scheduled to be completed in 2015. parking An inventory of public parking was completed for the downtown area. This area includes Main Street, Walnut Street and Poplar Street from 4th to 12th Street. Once the by-pass project is complete, parking along Main Street can be converted from parallel to angle as part of the downtown revitalization project, where feasible. This will create 20 additional parking spaces along Main Street. A new parking lot will be constructed adjacent to 8th Street Plaza.
