Deputy Willis said Mathias told him he was uninjured. He also said he had been drinking earlier, but was not driving. Deputy Willis said Drieman at first said she had been driving, but later told Willis that Mathias had asked her to say she was driving. She told police that Mathias had been driving at a high rate of speed on CR1000E when he came over a hill just before the intersection and couldn't get stopped. Deputy Willis said Mathias failed field sobriety tests, including a breath test. He was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he refused an alcohol content test.
