The Press-Dispatch C-5 Wednesday, May 22, 2013 ★ Church news Continued from page 4 First Church of God 2135 East Main Street Petersburg Sunday services 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.; children's church 10 a.m. each Sunday; Wednesday night Bible study at 6 p.m. This week, our country celebrates Memorial Day. We need to remember our fallen and deceased soldiers and loved ones. Also, remember those still defending our country and freedom around the world. Pray for those and their families who miss them dearly while serving us. There will be services Monday, May 27, at numerous cemeteries through out our county. Refer to the schedule printed in this week's Press-Dispatch and join in one of the services to remember our deceased Pike County veterans. Our freedoms have been protected by their sacrifices. Come and join us in any of our services, but especially this coming Sunday. You are always welcome. Josh Bowers, Pastor Lisa Wilson, Reporter Vincent christian church 8264 E. Taking the cover off of the pool reveals murky water, algae and debris that has collected. When we relate this to our spiritual life, we realize that sometimes our water becomes polluted. Satan has many tricks up his sleeve to pollute our water! But in Jesus, all things become new and old things pass away. Just like a pool needs maintenance to keep the water clear and sparkling, so does our spiritual water! Let's take the time to maintain our walk with the Lord so we do not become stagnant, stale and polluted. Jesus will make us fresh, beautiful and sparkling in our spirit so we can be more like Him. "Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God" (Romans 8:17). Do not picture God sitting in the audience with a judge's tablet watching you on stage, ready to mark you down at your slightest mistake in falling short of the command. Rather, picture yourself as a hand puppet with God's hand inside you, helping you live his command. God sets the standard, then helps you reach it. PAWS pet of the week "Right now I'm doing your typical puppy jobs, but what I really want is to direct." This week PAWS is featuring a vivacious little dog named Sneakers. Sneakers is a compact little guy that will steal your heart with his courage and fun-loving ways. He is the most unusual looking little fellow and it appears he has traits of a Cairn Terrier. He has a natural shaggy look and is attractively marked with shades of black and tan. He has a distinct black nose. This little dog appears to want to please and tilts his head and lifts his ears as if he doesn't want to miss a word that is spoken to him. Cairn Terriers are known for their lively and friendly temperaments and are generally considered to be mellower than most Terriers and some describe it as catlike. You must meet this precious little canine to understand his daunting character. To adopt Sneakers, call 354-9894. The Shelter is full to the brim with great dogs, cats puppies and kittens. If you could give an animal a great home, consider adopting one of our terrific pets.
