God gives you the free will to make your own choices, but He is hoping you will let Him guide and direct you, gently steering you away from the rocks. In order for you to sail the course, He has charted a path, however, you have to let Him be the captain. Handing over control is a big part of God's purpose for your life. He wanted to do great things through you, but He waits for you to give yourself to Him willingly. "In the day of my disaster, the Lord was my support" (II Samuel 22:19 NIV). A phone call in the wee hours, a malignant tumor, a police cruiser at your door, a child addicted to drugs. If you live long enough, you'll be confronted with "the day of disaster." It's the strength of your relationship with God that will dictate your response. One author points out that God's "disaster-preparedness kit is found in Psalm 31:24, NIV, 'Be Strong.'" Why? Because God is fighting for you. You must know God, know your convictions, and know how to tap into God's unlimited power. You are not who you, or anyone else thinks. God says you are strong. Believe Him. Take heart. Don't let your pain shut you down. Take the broken pieces and offer them to God. Choose to live with love. A closed heart isn't worth fighting for. You've worked too hard to get this far, so work with Him to see your healing all the way through. Hope in the Lord, put no stock in emotion, circumstances, or chitchat. Place your hopes and dreams at the altar. God makes all things new and possible. Any other counterfeit will fail. No matter how long I've spent in God's workshop, my progress is proven only in the moment of peril. We prepare in advance so our responses are involuntary. There isn't a situation, a temptation, or a question where Ephesians 6:10 doesn't apply: "Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power"(NIV). On multiple-choice tests it's the answer. God isn't telling you to be tough on your own. Rely on His strength and let Him do for you what He knows is best. (Taken in part from The Word for You Today) See you in church next Sunday. Sunday school lesson for May 26—Hope in the Day of the Lord. Last week's Trivia question and answer: Since the end of all things is at hand, we are to do what two things? Answer: Be sober and watch. Next week's question: Peter tells his readers that one day with the Lord is as how many years? Hint—II Peter Mini message: Everlasting hope The day of the Lord is the day of God's judgement on the earth. Until that day arrives, we can live with the assurance of everlasting hope. On that day, hope ends. Christ's arrival will be sudden and terrible for those who do not believe in Him. Again hope is over on that day. The best hope we have to look forward to is that Christ will return someday. This hope is the very best thing for which we have to look forward. On the day when hope becomes your eternal reality, make sure you have spent your time preparing to meet Jesus and begin to receive your reward. You will be rewarded one way or another. Until next week: May God bless. We sure missed you while you were away. Had a wonderful service about bringing the dry bones back to life. We all need to breathe some fresh air into our lives. Christians should never be in a rut. Chris asks all who are willing to help or be drafted for our Bible school to be at a meeting on Wednesday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. We will hold our Bible school the third week of July. Save the date. The students and staff of Pike County are waiting for the last day of school on Thursday, May 23. Memorial Day weekend is quickly approaching. Go to the cemetery and honor those who have passed on with a flower and a donation for those who are caring for and keeping their grave mowed. Many cemeteries are hurting, due to lack of donations and low interest rates. Do your part. We have many things coming up next month. Summer is on it's way. If you are not attending church, we welcome you to the friendly confines of New Liberty. We offer friendly faces and Bible based preaching. What are you waiting for? Come join us. You'll be glad you did. Our Mission Statement: Loving the 99, always looking for the one. Gary Pancake, Pastor Georgia Mason, Reporter Union Community Church 3082 N.
