The Patoka River should be up a bit but not to overflow. We have had some rain but not enough to change the wa- ter level. Last Tuesday night and into most of the day on Wednesday, the wind was 20 -40 mph from the west. This wind also brought into the ar- ea temps from the 60s on Monday to the 40s on Wednesday. The nighttime temps dropped from the 40s into the low 30s. The wind was so strong that a big piece of sheet met- al was blown across the driveway, so if anything wasn't tied down, you may have to track it down in your neighbor's yard. Last Saturday, a week ago, Mom needed to get out of the house, so Lau- ra came to the rescue and they traveled I-64 east and then back home. This was really great for both of them to talk and enjoy each other's company. Terri Ann saw her eye doctor and said she has never seen anyone with a lazy eye improve like Ter- ri Ann. Both eyes are do- ing okay now and last Tues- day, she got her glass- es, they are trifocals and have a light purple wire rim. Now she can see ev- erything clearer than she had ever seen before. To all the children who write letters to Santa, you can bring your letters to Santa and mail them in the magic mailbox at the Winslow Winter Wonder- land on December 7 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; December 14 and 21 from 1-3 p.m. The 2nd Annual Coat Wrap in Winslow will be taking place on Saturday, December 7. This is a won- derful sight to see when a coat is hugging a sign or post or laying on a bench or any object. If you are in need of that item, then it's yours to have. There were 85 coats that found new owners last year. If you have any coats to donate, take them to the Corner Book Shoppe on Main St. and they will get them to the organizers of the coat wrap. Thanksgiving day was windy and cold into the 40s, but the sun was shin- ing through some of the overcast skies, no rain un- til late evening. Our fam- ily of 11 ate this year at Shoney's in Jasper, where we saw several Winslow and Pike County stars eating there also. I had to go over and hug Barbara Featherston, who was en- joying a meal with her fam- ily of six. I haven't hugged her in some time and she had celebrated her 78th year on November 27. So, happy belated birthday, Barbara. Terri Ann, Ted, Lau- ra, Mom, Mildred, Norm and I had just gotten in- to Jasper when we got a call that Joshua and Kelly were broke down at the I- 64 and Ind. 41 interchange, so George, Deby and Jaca- ri were at the Holland ex- it and they drove back to pick them up and see what happened. A fter about an hour, they all met up with us at Shoney's. We all ate our turkey dinner with dressing, gravy, sweet po- tatoes and that delicious pumpkin pie as we talked, laughed and took pictures and got caught up on what has gone on in our lives and discussed where to have Christmas. We all met back at the house to pack up some of Mom's baggage for her to go back to Illinois and when George and Joshua come back for the car, the rest of Mom's bags will be picked up. I hope I sent her what she needed for over- night. Later on in the evening, Norm and I visited Tim and Jeanette, who are getting over a cold. We caught up with things and had a piece of sweet potato pie with my coffee. A fter we left to come home, we saw sev- eral houses that had their Christmas tree up and lit to start off the season. We drove through Winslow to see if more decorations were out like the house on Porter and Main, who had the blow-ups and moving pictures on the walls. Ver- non has his porch lit up in colorful lights and the Bruce family has a tree lit up in the yard. Then, at Ray and Pam Bolin's house, you can see lights over the house and items of packages, candy canes, manger scene, snowman, train with smoke com- ing out, reindeer, letters that say "Let It Snow" and much more. Then, as you turn at the corner, you can see more letters that say "Merry Christmas from the Hickman's" with items of a Santa in a rocking chair, tractor, snowflakes in a tree with a snowman on the ground, and their house is lit up with more items. Check it out. More and more yards will show of the Christmas season, so check them all out for your enjoyment. I loved to see the yards that decorated for Thanks- giving, they were great to see that big turkey sitting in the yard and the scare- crows, pumpkins and more. Thank you. Well it's time to dim the lights on this week and I hope you all keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy your ar- ea, and watch out for the deer that cross the road- ways. It was really great to see Mom again. As al- ways, smile, wave and say hi to everyone you see this week.
