A New Year! The Chris- tian Calendar has started a new year as we prepare our homes, our churches, and most importantly our lives to welcome the King of kings at his birth. Last Sunday, we decorated the church with the symbols of the season. This week, Advent moves to the candle of prophecy, the Bethlehem candle which speaks of what will be coming. Our worlds get filled with what is, the busy day to day chores especially now. Gifts to get, presents to wrap, cards to send, groceries for the family feast, and all the baking, cooking, cleaning, decorating…Need I go on? I haven't started on the par- ties and family visits that are part of our Christmas cal- endars. Yet, the words from Isaiah and the message from the Psalm carry a different message about what the sea- son should have in store for us. I call it, "Once upon a time…" Maybe if you listen close- ly, you can hear the angels whispering the message in your ear this season. "As lovely as Nicholas's gift was, how much more amazing is the gift of Jesus. He left heaven to become a man, died and rose again, and is God living with us. He brings us comfort when we're hurting and sad; He encourages us when we feel downhearted; He reveals the truth to us when we might be deceived"—Amy Bouch- er Pye. How can you give the gift of Jesus today? How does the presence lead you to share your resources of time, wis- dom, and love with others? Merry Christmas. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? God's order back into our lives—a peace that pass- es all understanding—He is in control. Facebook: White River Chapel UMC, Jeff Pinney. How remarkable that God chose to set his great rescue plan in motion when only a young couple was paying attention and only a few shepherds were awake. God's work is some- times so secret we may wonder if he's there or if he cares. The Christmas sto- ry tells us that God works out breathtaking plans for our lives in the dark, often while we're sleeping or go- ing about our ordinary rou- tines.
