Some of those receiv- ing grants were the Char- ger Soccer Club, Unit- ed Way of Pike County, Petersburg Elementary School Robotics Program under the direction of Ter- ra Knust, Winslow Elemen- tary School to support the Phonics Project under the direction of Stephanie Sal- lee, Petersburg Elemen- tary School 1:1 technolo- gy program under the di- rection of Jodi Pickett, Pike Central Middle/High School Band Program un- der the direction of Chris Ashworth. Also receiving grant awards were Bread of Life Ministry, Jefferson Town- ship Fire Department, The Salvation Army, Discov- er Downtown Petersburg, Pike County Christian As- sistance, Pike County 4-H Council, Spurgeon Fire De- partment, Holly's House, Pike County CASA, Senior and Family Services, Youth First, Junior Achievement, T TR Haven Over the Hill- top, PCHS Interactive Me- dia Class, Petersburg Fire Department, Pike Cen- tral Middle School Ten- nis under the direction of Phil Knust and last but not least the Pike County EMS received funding to help with a radio project. Each of the worthy organizations received funding to make a difference in the programs they run. These awards were pro- vided by the following funds; Friends of Pike County Fund, Grassroots Unrestricted Fund, Bry- an and Beth Luff Family Fund, The Dyer/Wallace Fund, Sisson Steel Fund, Wayne and Charlotte Ma- lotte Fund, Angela Warner Fund, Emery and Edna Boger Fund, Rauch Fam- ily Fund, Montes/Fenol Family Fund, the Willis- Parker-Evans-Fowler Fund and the David DeTar Corn Trust managed by German American Bank. "We are so fortunate to reside in a county that un- derstands the importance of a Community Founda- tion and helps to make it grow. The awards this year totaled more than $53,000. Cumulatively the PCCF has awarded more than $500,000 in grants," said Cindy Gaskins. The Foundation also awarded checks to orga- nizations that have had funds set up for their bene- fit. Those include Pike Cen- tral Middle/High School Swim Teams, the Arc of Southwestern Indiana, Pe- tersburg Little League, PAWS, Petersburg First United Methodist Church, Winslow Community Cen- ter, Town of Winslow and the Pike Central Musical and Theatrical Arts depart- ments. The Pike County Com- munity Foundation is proud to be an affiliate of the Community Founda- tion Alliance. They work everyday to make a differ- ence in their communities. Community Foundation awards grants to local groups Christkindlmarkt WHAT IS CHRISTKINDLMARKT? In Germany, Christmas wares and gifts are sold in the festival-style setting of Christkindlmarkt. During the weeks of Advent, toy makers, basket weavers, wood carvers, candle mak- ers and other artisans set up booths in front of the lo- cal church, where browsers make their selections. The custom began in the 14th century and continues today in the charming "Bavarian" village of Ferdinand, Ind. Ferdinand's Christkindl- markt, held the third full weekend in November annu- ally, features over 200 lavish- ly decorated booths spilling over with quality hand-creat- ed items, Christmas wares, antiques, art,delicious re- gional food, live entertain- ment, free concerts, free tours and so much more. FINDING ALL SITES IS EASY! Just park and ride, as shuttle service is provided for free.
