B-2 Wednesday, February 13, 2013 The Press-Dispatch PCMS sixth girls end up 13-6 for season By Mike Johansen The season ended with a split last week and a 13-6 overall record for the Pike Central Middle School Lady Chargers sixth grade A Team while the B Team suffered a pair of losses. The Lady Chargers A Team downed the South Spencer Lady Rebels 30-7 at home on Feb. 7. The Lady Chargers kept the Lady Rebels scoreless in the opening period and put up four points. The Lady Chargers added another nine points to lead 13-0 at halftime. Hailey Marchino scored four points. Marchino had another four points in the third period as Pike Central had a 10-0 margin to lead 23-0 after three quarters. The fourth period was a 7-7 tie to leave the Lady Chargers with a 30-7 victory. Hailey Marchino had 14 points, Jordyn Graham 4, McKenzie Dunn 6, Becca Crow 2, Allesha Sisk 2 and Hannah Carnahan 2. Marchino had eight rebounds, Crow seven, Sisk six, Dunn five, Kirstin Jansen four and H. Carnahan two. The Pike Central B Team had trouble getting baskets and lost to South Spencer 12-4. Kelsey Barrett had 2 points and H. Carnahan 2. Scouting Report By Mike Johansen The Pike Central Chargers boys basketball team will start a busty run to the end of the boys basketball season with home games Friday and Tuesday and the boys swimming team is in the Sectionals at Jasper High School Thursday and Sunday. BOYS BASKETBALL���The Charger boys basketball team will be at home for its next two games with the Forest Park Rangers and the South Knox Spartans before the final two games of the regular season. The Sectional drawings are Sunday evening starting at 5 p.m. They will be available on the IHSAA Web site after the drawing is complete. The Chargers will have Homecoming this Friday night when they host the Forest Park Rangers. Homecoming was delayed because of a weather cancellation and reset for this Friday. The JV teams play at 6 p.m., the Homecoming ceremonies follow the JV game and the varsity is set for 7:30 or as soon as the warm-up period is completed after the Homecoming ceremonies. The Rangers have had a much tougher season than is normal for them with 6-11 record overall and 2-3 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. Last season, they mastered the Chargers 74-52. This season, they have wins over Tell City, Washington, South Knox, Tecumseh and Wood Memorial. Losses include Southridge, North Posey, Barr-Reeve and South Spencer. Coach Jeff Litherland is the interim head coach as the head coach did step down in early January. Key players for the Rangers include: Joel Weyer, 5-10, 12; Kyle Schlachter, 6-7, 12; Drew Messmer, 6-0, 12; Dakota Begle, 6-4, 11; Damon Wilmes, 6-1, 10; Adam Braunecker, 5-10, 12; Lance Buechler, 6-1, 12; Austin Egloff, 6-4, 11; Cody Tempel, 6-2, 11; Ben Englert, 6-0, 10; Ben Wendholt, 6-3, 9. The Chargers will take on the South Knox Spartans at home next Tuesday, Feb. 19, with the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30. They are under first year Coach Mark Rohrer and stand at 2-15 with wins over Washington Catholic and Bloomfield. Losses include North Knox, Barr-Reeve, Forest Park, North Posey, Gibson Southern and Vincennes Lincoln. They beat Pike Central 70-57 last season and went 1-1 in the Sectional losing to Eastern Greene. Key players for the Spartans include: Nick Burke, 6-3, 11; Adam Elkins, 6-1, 12; A.J. BOYS-GIRLS SWIMMING���The Charger boys swimming team is in the boys IHSAA Sectional at Jasper on Thursday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 for the preliminary swimming events and Saturday, Feb. 16, at 9:30 for diving and 1 p.m. for the swimming events. The boys state meet is the following week for the first place finishers. Alyssa Jenkins had seven rebounds, Storm Weisling five, Emily Carnahan five, Taylor Miley four, Barrett three, Lillie Pancake two and Kendra Wolfe two. Also playing were Ashley Dulworth, Madison Sisk, Sydney Keith and Meredith Benson. The Lady Chargers A Team took on the BarrReeve Lady Vikings in the final game of the season and suffered a 32-31 loss. BarrReeve had an 8-4 edge in the opening period and 9-8 in the second for a 170-12 edge at halftime. PC came out in the third period to take a 14-9 edge and tie the game at 26-26. Dunn had 6 of the 14 points. Barr-Reeve had a 6-5 edge in a cautious fourth quarter. Dunn scored 9 points, Graham 8, Marchino 6, Crow 4, Jansen 2, Sisk 2. Registration fees for 2013 will be $50 for Tee Ball ages 3-6; $65 for the first child for ages 7-12 boys and girls, $55 for second child; and $160 cap for three or more children in a family. Umpires are also needed for the upcoming Little League season. They must be age 15 or older and they are asked to sign-up at the Little League registration sessions. These deadlines are necessary to meet the printing deadlines and times for The Press-Dispatch.
