Obituaries Dr. Rev. Charles C. Baxter, Sr. Dr. Rev. Charles C. Baxter, Sr., 85, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at 7:30 a.m. at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg. He was born in Birmingham, AL, March 26, 1927 to Charles C. and Glenn (Breedlove) Baxter. Dr. Baxter received an honorar y Doctorate of Ministry from Judson College, was a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, received the Kentucky Colonel, the 32nd degree of the Masonic and recognition as a Shriner and member of the Murat Temple in Indianapolis. He also served in the U.S. Navy and trained as part of an under- water demolition team. Dr. Baxter served in the ministry more than 60 years and pastored three churches during that time: Sandcreek Baptist Church (Greensburg, IN), Franklin Road Baptist Church (Indianapolis) and First Baptist Church (Greensburg, IN). He was, in his later years, a pulpit fill-in and often an interim preacher. He organized and led 16 mission trips to Haiti and to Kenya, Africa. He served the ABC/ USA for nearly 45 years and sat on regional and national boards. He was dear friends with Dr. Dallas West, as well as Dr. Posey Gaines (both deceased) and several other key leaders of the state. Dr. Baxter was largely responsible for the encouragement of both his son���s and grandson���s calling into ministry; after they received the call from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Surviving are his wife, Dottie (Gower) Baxter of Washington; a son, Dr. Rev. Charles C. Baxter, Jr. and wife Nancy of Petersburg; grandson, Rev. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Harris Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. Charles C. Baxter, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and will be from 8 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the FBC Youth Ministry. Graveside services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at the Spurgeon Cemetery. Pemberton Bradley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
