Question for next week: Paul identifies the term covetousness with what other word? HintColossians. Mini message: Living the new life People must be able to see a difference in the way you lived your life as a nonChristian and the way you live life after accepting Christ. Still we should not expect instant maturity as Christians and think we will never sin or make mistakes, because these things will happen. Growing in Christ is a life long process. It must be, we will either be moving toward Christ or moving away from him. If we keep listening to God we will keep changing and going forward all of the time. For the times that we may slip up there is hope. Reconciliation is possible. Confess your sins to God and get moving in the right direction again. Changes in your new life may be slow, but it will change for the better if you put your trust in Christ to lead you. Until next weekKeep listening to God and making positive changes. Larry Barr, Pastor Religious viewpoint One thing By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam Referring to the great Temple of God, which King David so earnestly hoped to build, he said: One thing have I desired of the Lord; that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple (Psalm 27:4). Similarly, when Martha of Bethany complained to Jesus that Mary sat at [His] feet and heard His Word while she was left to serve alone, the Lord answered: Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things, but one thing is needful, and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her (Luke 10: 41, 42). Today, with regard to the message of grace from the ascended, glorified Lord, the Apostle Paul exhorts us: Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly(Colossians 3:16). Wonderful results follow such a determination to know Christ through the Word. When the Lord Jesus opened the eyes of the blind beggar, the poor man was immediately persecuted by the religious leaders of the day. He could not answer all of their questions but he could answer the one most important to himself: One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see (John 9:25). The rest of the narrative relates how the blind beggar also received spiritual sight as, face to face with the Son of God, he exclaimed: Lord, I believe! andworshipped Him (Verse 38). But what about our conduct after spiritual sight has been bestowed? The most consecrated believer will acknowledge that he often fails to live up to the light he has received. St. Paul, by inspiration, gives us the solution to this problem also, saying: This one thing I do: forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press [strain] toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3: 13, 14). Our first amendment freedom of religion By Clyde Dupin The First Amendment to the Constitution is the one most often misunderstood. It may be because of Hitlers tactics in the 1930s. Tell a lie and say it often, keep it simple, and make it burn. With this philosophy he almost conquered the world. In America, a statement totally out of context is used by the elite media, liberal politicians, Supreme Court Justices, educators and liberal clergy. The words are simple but have absolutely nothing to do with our trusted Constitution. We hear them daily but never in the true context; separation of church and state. Here are the first words of the First Amendment to the Constitution. Freedom of religion, speech and the press, rights of assembly and petition. Read it over and note the first word, Freedom and then Religion. The next paragraph explains that America shall not establish one particular church as England had done. Most of our children and even college students have been denied this basic and important part of our heritage and American history. As a result our schools now have shootings and kids getting pregnant by the thousands. The Bible is no longer read and prayers are seldom offered. As a result we have moral decline and a government gone socialist. Our culture has become pagan and our movies and video games are filled with violence. In America, we see how cultural and political elites seem blinded to the historic Christian faith. Our politicians justify the taking of innocent life and provide abortion pills to our youth at taxpayers expense. While politicians approve the killing of babies, as Mother Teresa lamented, but they are shocked when our schools Continued on page 4 Continued on page 4 buffet saturday feb. 16 57:30PM supper SERving 4 KindS of Soup -all HoMEMadEChili, Vegetable Beef, Potato and Chicken Corn Chowder With Choice of Sandwiches, Desserts and Drinks fREE-will offERing: proceeds go to wg Bldg. fund Walnut Grove united Methodist ChurCh 4 miles south of Monroe City on State Road 61, watch for large white sign on E. side of highway.
