Debo- rah's voice was unique be- cause she commanded au- thority over Israel through the common consent of the people. A woman of extraor- dinary knowledge, wisdom, and godly character; taught the people through divine knowledge by the Holy Spir- it how to interpret His will. There are three ways the voice of Deborah speaks of God's will for us. 1. God will tell us what we need to win. 2. God will tell us who will help us. 3. God will tell us where we need to be. So many trials come in- to our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? Our doors are always open to you. It's difficult to pinpoint when and why Christmas first began to use evergreen trees at Christmastime. There are many legends and myths regarding the origin of Christmas trees. German Christians in the early part of the 16th centu- ry may have been the first to use evergreen trees dur- ing Advent and Christmas. Those trees had no candles on them, but were decorat- ed with items at hand: col- ored paper, gold foil, apples and dolls. German immi- grants brought the custom to America around 1700 when they settled in Penn- sylvania. Some scholars say that Christmas trees remind us of salvation which came to us through Christ who died on a "tree." St. Peter wrote: "He [Christ] himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteous- ness. By his wounds you have been healed" (1 Peter 2:24, RSV ). But no matter the reason, the season of Christmas is about our Savior who was born in human form to ful- fill the plan of salvation for you and me. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Richard Comer, Pastor Faith Church. We will be dis- missing the evening service to attend. Focus on Heaven, Not Self, This Holiday Season The holidays are an impor- tant time to reflect on both the blessings and the commands of God. The Bible says ev- erything you have you were blessed with, both to enjoy and to use to bless the world around you. Sometimes we forget this. Instead of enjoy- ing what we have and being a blessing to the world, we al- low the world around us to dis- tract us. In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus gives us a clear com- mand, one we should pay care- ful attention to during this time of year. "Don't store up treasures here on earth where they can erode away or may be stolen. Store them in heaven where they will never lose their val- ue, and are safe from thieves. If your profits are in heaven your heart will be there too" (Matthew 6:19 -21, Living Bi- ble). Make sure that your time with God and in His Word doesn't get lost as you prepare for your holiday celebrations. Have a blessed week. We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
