About 1.25 inches of rain fell near Petersburg in the 20 -minute rain, but other parts of the coun- ty got more intense rain and wind. Pike County Highway Assistant Superintendent Josh Byrd said the storm appeared to cut across Pike County, with the most inten- sity in Oatsville, Glezen, Stendal and Spurgeon, and just clipping Pikeville. Byrd said on a road near Pikev- ille, there were five consecutive trees in a row blown over the road. Dave Capehart, with the Pike County Central Dispatch, an- nounced at about 11:35 a.m., a se- vere storm with winds up to 70 mph and nickel-sized hail was ap- proaching the county. Bryd estimated they had calls on about 60 different locations on trees being down and culverts be- ing damaged. He said they had to close CR 500 E. because it had a tree down in power lines. Also, a road near Frank Kolb's was washed out, but Byrd didn't know the road number. He said a culvert was washed out on CR 250 S. as well. As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, there were two electrical outages to 68 cus- tomers served by Duke in the southern part of Pike County. Above: water from a strong storm rushes over County Road 1100 E. Tuesday afternoon. At left: heavy rain being blown by strong winds Tuesday reduced visibility to only a few feet.
