Daves – who struck out five batters with- out allowing any walks – retired the first 13 batters he faced before surrendering a double with one out in the fifth inning. With the win, Daves improved to 3-0 on the season, during which he's allowed a to- tal of five hits – including just one in a win at Saline (Ill.) on Saturday, June 2 – in 15 innings while striking out 23 batters. Daves has allowed just one run, which was unearned, giving him an earned run average of 0.00 thus far this season. "He's pitched extremely well," said Jas- per Reds business manager Bob Alles, who is in his 46th year with the semi-profes- sional baseball team. "He's been a good player for a long time. He loves the game. He's very competitive. He's a good athlete." "He's kind of quiet," Alles added. "He's got confidence in his ability, but he's not cocky, not mouthy. He just shows up and plays and plays very well. Guys like that are fun to have on your roster." The Jasper Reds – who defeated Mar- tinsville 18 -2 in the first game of Satur- day's twinbill – are now 7-0 and will host a doubleheader against the Western Ken- tucky Giants on Saturday, June 23, start- ing at 3 p.m. The Jasper Reds will host the St. Louis Eagles on Friday, July 6, and Saturday, July 7, the Terre Haute Red Sox on Saturday, Ju- ly 14, the Owensboro Bombers on Wednes- day, July 18, before playing in the Blue- grass World Series, which will be held at Louisville Slugger Field July 30 -August 4. In the opening game on Monday, July 30, the Jasper Reds will play against the Louisville Stars, a team of former major league players led by 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Chipper Jones along with for- Barnes, Sorgius, Stone receive honorable mention By Ed Cahill Pike Central High School se- nior Demi Croak has been named to the Pocket Athletic Conference All-Conference Softball Team for the second straight season while seniors Jalah Barnes, Peyton Sor- gius and Audra Stone all received honorable mention. Croak, who was named to the 2017 PAC All-Conference Softball Team as a utility player, was named to the 2018 PAC All-Conference Softball Team as an infielder af- ter batting .423 against PAC foes. In eight PAC contests, Croak collected 11 hits in 26 at-bats – in- cluding one double – while scor- ing nine runs and driving in sev- en. Croak also drew four walks and stole four bases in as many at- tempts while striking out just once in 29 plate appearances. Overall, Croak batted .423 with a team-high 33 hits – including six doubles – in 78 at-bats while scoring 17 runs and driving in 20. Croak, who drew six walks and struck out three times in 85 plate appearances, was also was suc- cessful on five out of six steal at- tempts. Barnes received honorable men- tion accolades as an infielder af- ter batting .467 against PAC foes. In eight PAC contests, Barnes collected 14 hits in 30 at-bats – including three doubles and one home run – while scoring six runs and driving in 12. Barnes also stole three bases in as many attempts while striking out just once. Overall, Barnes batted .370 with 30 hits – including six doubles and one home run – in 81 at-bats while scoring 16 runs and driving in a team-high 25 runs. Barnes, who drew two walks and struck out two times in 83 plate appearances, was also was successful on all three of her steal attempts. Sorgius received honorable mention accolades as a utility play- er after batting .407 – with 11 hits, including three doubles, in 27 at- bats – against PAC opponents while scoring seven runs and driv- ing in seven. Overall, Sorgius batted .365 – with 27 hits, including seven dou- bles, one triple and two home runs, in 74 at-bats while scoring 19 runs and driving in 17. Sorgius, who drew 10 walks, struck out six times and was hit by a pitch once in 85 plate appear- ances, was also was successful on two out of three steal attempts. As a pitcher, Sorgius was 3-4 in seven starts against PAC foes with a 3.47 earned run average, al- lowing 29 runs – 21 of which were earned – on 51 hits while walking five and striking out 28 in 42-2/3 innings. She hurled six complete games, including shutout wins over Southridge (5 -0) and Tell City (10 -0). Overall, Sorgius went 9 -8 with a 3.06 earned run average, allowing 67 runs – 48 of which were earned – on 116 hits while walking 12 and striking out 80 in 109 -2/3 innings.
