Hendrixson, who has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo., will play for the Terhune Tiger Girls coached by Evansville Memorial's Bruce Dockery and Val- paraiso's Candy Wilson, ac- cording to a press release is- sued by Hoosier Basketball Magazine on Wednesday, May 23. During the 2017-18 regu- lar season, Hendrixson – a 5 -foot-11 forward – averaged 15.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game in 20 games while being named to the Pocket Athletic Con- ference's All-Conference Team in girls' basketball for the second straight season. Six of Hendrixson's 11 teammates were selected as 2018 Indiana All-Stars – Angel Baker of Pike, who has committed to Wright State; Mackenzie Blazek of Whiteland, who has commit- ted to Illinois; Katlyn Gil- bert of Heritage Christian, who has committed to No- tre Dame; Cassidy Hardin of Center Grove, who has com- mitted to Purdue; Kayanna Taylor of Martinsville, who has committed to Purdue; and Michaela White of Pike, who has committed to Indi- ana State. One other member of the Terhune Tiger Girls has committed to an NCA A Di- vision I university – Brean- na Boles of Lapel, who will attend Indiana State. The Terhune Tiger Girls squad also features Rachel Stewart, who played on 2017 A A State Champion Eastern (Pekin) and will at- tend Trine; Britney Ballard of Columbus East, who has committed to Franklin; Kel- li Damman of Carroll (Al- len), who has committed to Purdue-Northwest; and Ari Gerdt of Valparaiso, who has committed to Indiana Wes- leyan. The Hickory Husker Girls will feature 2018 Miss Indi- ana Basketball Amy Dilk of Carmel, who has committed to Michigan; and three 2018 Indiana All-Stars – Nia Clark of Ben Davis, who has com- mitted to Miami (Ohio); Em- ily Kiser of Noblesville, who has committed to Michigan; and Tomi Taiwo of Carmel, who has committed to Iowa. Three other members of the Hickory Husker Girls have committed to an NCA A Division I universi- ty – Courtney Krol of Ches- terston, who will attend De- Paul; Blake Smith of Car- mel, who will attend Ball State; and Asia Strong of South Bend Riley, who will attend Iowa. The Hickory Husker Girls squad also features two state finalists – Cali Nolot, who played on 2017 A A A Run- ner-up North Harrison and will attend Kentucky Wes- leyan; and Kyra Whitaker, who played on 2018 A A A Runner-up Greensburg and will attend Indiana Tech. Rounding out the Hicko- ry Husker Girls roster will be Sara Doi of Penn, who has committed to Hunting- ton; Sky Williams of Tind- ley, who has committed to Eastern Florida State; and Sophie Williams of Mt. Ver- non (Fortville). The Hickory Husker Girls will be coached by Joe Lentz of Ben Davis and Julie Shel- ton of Mount Vernon (Fort- ville). In the boys' game, the Hickory Husker Boys will feature a future Indiana University Hoosier – Robert Phinissee of McCutcheon – and four more 2018 Indiana All-Stars: Gavin Bizeau of Plainfield, who has commit- ted to Duquesne; Dean Tate of 2018 A A A A State Cham- pion Warren Central; and De'Avion Washington of Terre Haute South, who has committed to Indiana State. The 2018 Mr. Indiana Bas- ketball, Romeo Langford of New Albany, will attend the Hoosiers' Reunion All-Star Classic as an honorary mem- ber of the Hickory Husker Boys team, but he will not participate in the event. The Hickory Husker Boys will be coached by Jerry Hoover of Blackford and Aaron Spaulding of Eastern Hancock. The Terhune Tiger Boys will feature three 2018 Indi- ana All-Stars – Jarron Cole- man of Indianapolis Cathe- dral, who has committed to Ball State; Kevin Easley of Lawrence North, who has committed to Tennessee Chattanooga; and Mekhi Lairy of Evansville Bosse, who has committed to Mi - ami (Ohio). The Terhune Tiger Boys will be coached by Daniel Cox of New Castle and Chan- dler Thompson of Muncie Central. The girls' game will tip off at 6 p.m., Eastern time. The boys' game will follow at 8 p.m., Eastern time. SPORTS BRIEFS Pike Central Youth Wrestling Camp to be held in July Wrestlers who are in- terested in improving their skills and knowl- edge of the sport are in- vited to participate in the Pike Central Youth Wres- tling Camp. The wrestling camp is for students who will be in kindergarten or first through sixth grades in the 2018 -19 school year. The camp will run from Monday, July 16, to Friday, July 20, from 6 p.m.-7:10 p.m., at the Pike Central High School gym. The wrestling finale will be held on Wednesday, Ju- ly 25, at 6 p.m. The sign-up fee is $45 ($25 for any additional siblings) and includes a T-shirt and a medal. Pike Central Boys' Basketball Camp set for June 4-7 The 2018 Pike Central Boys' Basketball Camp – for boys who will be enter- ing first through eighth grades this fall – will be held Monday, June 4, through Thursday, June 7, at the Pike Central Middle School gymnasium. The cost of the camp is $25 per child. The cost for two campers from the same family is $40. Each camper will receive a Pike Central Basketball T-shirt. The camp, which will be conducted by Pike Central coaching staff and players, will feature five hours of instruction time. The camp is designed to assist and enhance bas- ketball fundamentals, fo- cusing on the fundamen- tals of dribbling, passing, shooting, ball handling, team strategies and de- fense. The camp will be split into two sessions. The session for campers en- tering first through fourth grade will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. each day, while the session for campers entering fifth through eighth grade will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. each day. Pike Central Chargers to host soccer clinic June 15 The Pike Central Char- gers soccer coaching staff and players will be host- ing a one-day clinic on Fri- day, June 15, for boys and girls who will be entering kindergarten through eighth grade this fall. The clinic will be held at the Gospel Center Church's soccer field on east Illi- nois Street in Petersburg. Session 1 – from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – will be for boys and girls kindergar- ten through fifth grade. Session 2 – from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. – will be for boys and girls sixth through eighth grade. Members of the Pike Central High School boys' soccer team and coaches will run the clinic, with age specific drills and in- struction. The registration fee is $20 per player. A clinic t- shirt will be provided to those who are pre-regis- tered. Check-in is 15 to 20 minutes before the start of each session. Registration will also be conducted the day of the clinic, but no clinic t- shirts will be provided. Registration forms and payments are due by Fri- day, June 1, in order to re- ceive a clinic t-shirt. Lady Charger Basketball Camp set for June 25-28 Girls who will be enter- ing third through eighth grades this fall will have a chance to improve their skills and learn more about basketball during the Lady Chargers Bas- ketball Camp, which will be held from Monday, June 25, through Thurs- day, June 28, at Pike Cen- tral High School. Pike Central High School head coach Kyle McCutchan and his staff will be conducting two separate camps. The first will be for incoming 3rd through 5th graders from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. The second will be for incom- ing 6th through 8th grad- ers from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. The camp will focus on fundamentals and learn- ing the game of basket- ball. There will be games and contests each day. Each camper will receive individual instruction from coaching staff and high school players. The cost is $20 per play- er, or $ 35 for two players from the same family, and includes a camp t-shirt. Forms are available at each school's office. Ed Cahill photo 7th Annual Heartland Half Marathon registration open The 7th Annual Heart- land Half Marathon is scheduled for Labor Day weekend on Saturday, Sept. 1. The event will once again include a half marathon, a 5K, and a team challenge. Cash prizes will be given to the top three male and fe- male half marathon finish- ers. First place will receive $500, second place $250, and third place $100. The races will begin 7:30 a.m., Eastern time, in the shadow of the Jasper Train Depot along the Patoka River and will finish in the shade at Dave Buehler Pla- za, just a stone's throw away from the starting line. The hilly, scenic course takes runners through com- mercial and residential ar- eas with challenging peaks midway through the route. A fter the midway point, the course largely flattens out through to the finish. The 5K starts and ends in the same location as the half marathon, but splits to take a different course very close to the start of the race. The team challenge is a relay comprised of a four-person team and fol- lows the same course as the half marathon. The first team member will travel 3.8 miles, then pass along his/ her timing chip to the sec- ond member. The second member will cover 4.05 miles, the third member 2.5 miles, and the final member 2.75 miles. The registration fee for the half marathon is $50 if registered before June 18. The fee will increase to $ 60 on June 18 and to $70 on August 13. The regis- tration fee for the 5K is $20 if registered before June 17. The fee will increase to $25 on June 18. The reg- istration fee for the team challenge is $20 per per- son/$ 80 per team if regis- tered before June 17. The fee will increase to $25 per person/$100 per team on June 18. Pre-registrants will re- ceive a technical shirt, and the first 500 half marathon registrants will receive a special gift. Starting Sunday, June 3, a free training group will meet every Sunday at 7 a.m. Eastern time, at Downtown Running and Fitness locat- ed at 331 Mill Street. This training group is open to the public and participants are free to run/walk at their own pace. The Heartland Half Mar- athon, 5K, and Team Chal- lenge are being coordinat- ed by DC MultiSport, a non-profit organization ded- icated to promoting health and wellness while giving back to local communities. Lodging information is being coordinated by the Dubois County Visitors Center and race-day event volunteers are being coordi- nated by Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, the event's corporate sponsor. The majority of the pro- ceeds from this year's race will be given to the Phillip R. Dawkins Heart & Vascu- lar Center at Memorial Hos- pital to be utilized for new integrative medicine ser- vices provided to cardiac patients. Ten percent of the pro- ceeds will go toward the DC MultiSport Endowment to ensure future stability of the organization and to con- tinue in its efforts to give to- ward worthy causes.
