Area Reunions Student Spotlight Obituaries IVY TECH ANNOUNCES DEAN'S LIST Ivy Tech Community Col- lege Southwest recognizes the following Pike Coun- ty students for making the Dean's List for the 2018 spring semester: Joseph Carroll, Nathan Harker, Jo- seph Rudolph, Zachary Ste- phens and Colt Walker, all of Petersburg; Alexandra How- ell, of Stendal; Adam Bar- rett, John Gayhart, Lincoln Poehlein and Timothy Ward, all of Winslow. To be on the Dean's List, Ivy Tech students must achieve a minimum 3.50 grade point average in spe- cific courses with no D's or F's, must have earned six or more credits during the se- mester, and at least 12 de- gree eligible credits during their course of study. HELEN FAYE TOLBERT Helen Faye Tolbert, 85, of Giro, passed away Sun- day, May 27, 2018, at Amber Manor Care Center in Pe- tersburg. She was born February 21, 1933, in Petersburg, to Carl and Lucy ( White) Mi- ley. She graduated from Pe- tersburg High School in 1951 and lived in the Giro area for 57 years. She had been a telephone operator at Petersburg Telephone Com- pany. She enjoyed cross- word puzzles, coloring and traveling with her aunt. She and her husband participat- ed in parades all over the ar- ea with their horses. They were in the Palestine Parade on Labor Day for 32 years in a row. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy "Quig" Tolbert, of Giro; brother, Ted Miley, of Pe- tersburg; two sisters, Shir- ley English, of Kansas City, Mo., and Sharon Sue Cord, of Spencer; and several niec- es and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sis- ter, Judy (Miley) Messmer; brother, Jack Miley; sister- in-law, Betty ( Wood) Mi- ley; and an infant sister and brother. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Colvin Funer- al Home in Princeton, with John Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in the Da- vidson Cemetery in Giro, Ind. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Davidson Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. MEMORIAL DAY AT BARRETT CEMETERY The Winslow American Legion firing squad and honor guard performed tributes at cemeteries throughout southern Pike County on Monday morning. Above, Eric Ross grills hamburgers and hot dogs for the Barrett Cemetery cookout that follows the veterans' tribute at the lo- cation of the former Barrett School. The one room school operated from 1892 to 1905. Its most famous alumnus was US Senator Vance Hartke. The school burned in September 1969.
