Wilkerson, a 6 -foot-3 ju- nior, made 11 of 20 field goal attempts – including four of 10 tries from beyond the three-point arc – while hitting just one of four tries from the free throw line as the Tigers improved to 4-0. "At the high school lev- el, he's just hard to guard," Chargers head coach Hunt- er Elliott said of Wilkerson. "He shoots it real well and he's real athletic. "If you get up on him, he's going to go around you, and if you play off of him, he's going to shoot it," Elliott continued. "So that makes him a match-up nightmare." "He's a heck of a play- er," said Pike Central se- nior Bryant Nalley, who led the Chargers (0 -2) with 22 points. "He's tough to guard. We tried our best but, I mean, he was on." Pike Central jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-point- er by senior Kyson Western By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net A Pike County man will be one of 40 amateur mixed martial arts fighters battling for $250,000 in profession- al contracts during the King of the Cage World Amateur Championships 4 at Reno, Nev., on Saturday, Dec. 9. Cody "Lightning" Schieve, 22, of Winslow, will com- pete a bantamweight bout against Joshua "The Marine" Oxendine, 23, of Pembroke, N.C., in a two three-minute round exhibition at the Reno Events Center. The 6 -foot tall Schieve, who won the bantamweight ti- tle at Tru-Form Entertainment: Primal at Sullivan, Ind., on Saturday, July 29, currently has a record of 6 -8. The 5 -foot-9 Oxendine enters Saturday's fight with a record of 0 -3-1. "As far as I can tell, he's bigger than I am, like, size- wise," said Schieve, who graduated from Southridge High School in 2013 after transferring from Pike Cen- tral High School following his junior year. "He's short- er but he's more muscular than I am, but I'll have more reach on him. His ground game's not too great from what I've seen. Two of his losses have been from being taken down and being submitted." "If I need to take him to the ground, I'm super com- fortable on the ground, and I'm comfortable standing up," Schieve continued. "So I'll take him to the ground and finish him there if I have to. But I want to stand up and trade punches with him. I want to make it as excit- ing as possible." Schieve will be competing for one of five profession- al contracts – one for $100,000, two for $50,000 and two for $25,000 – with KOTC. Winners will be determined based on the following criteria: skill level, personality, athleticism, level of excitement at which they fight, and marketability. Winners for the event – which will be broadcast live to more than 50 million U.S. households on MAV T V – will be determined based on a formula which includes the fight judges' scores as well as online voting by both the live event audience and the T V viewing audience. "Usually, you'll get your fighter information and then you'll go based off of how he usually fights," Schieve said. "But for this one, I want to stand up and trade punches because I want to make it as exciting as possible. A lot of people don't like to watch people just sit there and wres- tle. Seeing people getting punched in the face is more ex- citing than watching people roll around on the ground." "It's possible that we could have the most exciting fight that night, and I could lose, but I can still win that profes- sional contract – even though I lost – just because I had By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net Senior Erika Hendrixson scored a game-high 22 points – including 15 in the second half – to lead the Pike Cen- tral High School girls' bas- ketball team to a 64-31 victo- ry over visiting South Spencer on Monday, Dec. 4.
