Riesenbeck said a Sun- day morning burn had re- kindled in leaves and vines prior to spreading to adja- cent bean field stubble. The fire was contained in about an hour and a half by about 10 men, three brush trucks, two Gators and two tankers, according to Riesenbeck. The blaze was reported on properties owned by Bar- nett, Mason, Shelton and another. Hudson arrested for invasion of privacy The violation of a pro- tective order landed Wil- liam E. Hudson, 69, of 3399 Woodview Drive, New- burgh, in jail on invasion of privacy charges on Decem- ber 1 following an investiga- tion by Pike County Depu- ty Brad Jenkins and Indiana State Trooper Hunter Man- ning. Pike County Central Dispatch advised Jenkins of a possible violation of a protective order, which had been served on Hudson on November 15 by the War- rick County Sheriff De- partment. The report was from both the complainant, who had a video of the violation and a witness who was travel- ing behind Hudson when he drove on S. Long Lake Way. According to the re- port, Hudson's action was in violation of the protec- tive order. A search of Hudson's property and the immedi- ate area by Deputy Jenkins and Trooper Manning was unsuccessful. Jenkins requested an ar- rest warrant for Hudson fol- lowing the November 28 in- cident near Spurgeon. He was located and ar- rested on December 1. The protective order was for Christopher Rop- er, of 2224 N. Thomas Ave., Evansville, who owns property in Pike County on S. Long Lake Way. Hud- son not honoring the pro- tective order and state- ments relayed by the Pike County Sheriff's Office about "stand your ground law" and the use of "dead- ly force" caused Jenkins to be concerned about the safety and welfare of Roper and his family, according to the report. Benefit breakfast, lunch for Mabrey set for Dec. 9 A benefit breakfast and lunch is scheduled to help Cory Mabrey with medical expenses stemming from a freak 4-wheeler accident in August. Nana's Country Cookin' on north Main St., Peters- burg, will host the event from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sat- urday, December 9. Mabrey was driving AT- Vs with his girlfriend, Ce- cily Ashby, on August 20 when the gas cap explod- ed off the AT V, showering both of them in fuel and catching fire. Corey was able to push Cecily out of the way, but he caught fire and suffered severe burns, including 50 percent of his body being covered with third degree burns. He was taken by air ambulance to the University of Louisville hospital to their burn Inten- sive Care Unit, where he was treated for six weeks. He was then transferred to Evansville, where he spent another three weeks. He is now home, but contin- ues outpatient treatment. In all, he has undergone seven surgeries. He has been off work since the accident and has been unable to receive dis- ability. Mabrey is 24 years old and lives in Winslow. The meals on Saturday will be free will donations. Erratic driving leads to OVWI, drug charges By Andy Heuring Erratic driving led to OV WI and drug charges in two separate arrests over the weekend. A rural Petersburg wom- an was arrested at about 1:10 a.m. Sunday after po- lice said they saw her drive into the oncoming lane of traffic several times on Highway 57. Roni Bostian, 50, of 5483 N. CR400E, Petersburg was stopped by Petersburg Police Cpl. Jared Simmons, who said he saw her driv- ing south on Highway 57 and go into the other lane several times before she eventually turned into a driveway on CR750N. Cpl. Simmons said when he talked to Bostian she had slurred speech, blood- shot eyes, poor manual dexterity and he noticed the odor of alcohol. She failed field sobriety tests. She also gave police permission to search her vehicle, according to Sim- mons' report. He said police found a marijuana cigarette. She was taken to the Da- viess Community Hospital, where she tested positive for THC (marijuana) and opiates. She was transported to the Pike County Jail, where she was preliminar- ily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, with a prior conviction in last five years; possession of marijuana and posses- sion of a narcotic drug. A Washington man was arrested at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday after police said they saw him drive over the fog line three times and weave all over the lane be- fore they stopped him at the Pike-Daviess County line on Highway 57. David Davis, 49, of 7404 S. CR150E, Washington was arrested on prelimi- nary charges of operating a vehicle (refusal), posses- sion of meth, resisting law enforcement and maintain- ing a common nuisance. Cpl. Simmons said while talking with Davis, he no- ticed his pupils were unre- sponsive to light stimulus, rapid slurred speech and he was "extremely fidgety." Simmons said these are symptoms of meth intoxi- cation. Davis failed field sobri- ety tests. K-9 Officer Bleck and his handler, Deputy Buck Seger, arrived and did a walk-around Davis' vehicle and Bleck indicat- ed drugs were in the vehi- cle. Davis told police he didn't have anything ille- gal in the car. Cpl. Simmons said Sher- iff's Sgt. Dallas Killian and Deputy Seger requested Davis remove his shoes, while Simmons searched his vehicle. The deputies said Davis attempted to gr- ab a glass container out of his shoe and started pull- ing away from them. A fter taking him to the ground, Cpl. Simmons said officers located a glass container with a white rock-like sub- stance in it that field-tested positive for meth. According to Cpl. Sim- mons' report, Davis ad- mitted to using meth ear- lier in the day and said he had paid $50 for the meth they found in his shoe. Something newsworthy? Call 812-354-8500
