To find breast or cervical cancers early, it is important that you get regular exams. You may be able to get these exams at low cost or no cost at the Cleveland County Health Department through the NC Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP). BCCCP offers free or low-cost cancer screenings and follow-up to eligible women in North Carolina. If treatment is needed, it may be covered by Breast and Cervical Cancer Medicaid (BCCM) if you qualify. BCCCP offers Pap Smears and Mammograms (if age appropriate). There are eligibility requirements for the BCCCP program such as you must have little or no health insurance, no Medicaid and meet household income guidelines. Call the Cleveland County Health Department at 980-484-5100 to see if you are eligible. Do You Need Breast or Cervical Cancer Screening? YARD SALES The Town of Waco Board of Alderman recently took a step to change the color of their municipality to go green. The Board voted to implement a curbside recycling program for all its citizens in their 2017 - 2018 budget. The Town currently contracts with Republic Services to pro- vide curbside trash collec- tion for all the approximately 190 households in Waco on a weekly basis. This service is provided at no cost to the citi- zens. The cost of trash collec- tion for the town is estimated at around $1,500.00 a month. The recycling collections will be on a bi-weekly basis and will add an additional cost of approxi- mately $400.00 to the Town's monthly budget. "The Town started discussing this project in the spring of 2017," said Waco Mayor, John Barrett. "We are very concerned with the environmental impact of continuing to fi ll our landfi lls and felt it was the right time to take this important step". Barrett said that Waco will be the fi rst small municipality in Cleveland County to provide this service. Currently Shelby, Kings Mountain and Boiling Springs have curbside recycling programs. Republic Services is planning on delivering the roll-out recycling bins to the Waco citizens in early October with service slated to start around October 16th. The containers will be similar to the current roll-out trash recep- tacles and will be used for cardboard, plastic, metal and glass. "This is a big step for Waco" said Barrett. The Board made a bold move in tackling this project and I'm very happy to see Waco moving in this direction. I praise the Board for their work and I'm sure the citizens will too he said. Submitted by Town of Waco Town of Waco to implement curbside recycling program
