Classes begin August 21 at the Battery In- novation Center. The program is offered through a partnership be- tween VU and WestGate along with Daviess, Greene, Martin, and Lawrence coun- ties. The program accord- ing to Ben Wrightsman, BIC chief operations offi- cer, recruiting local, quali- fied technical workers who can perform well in their advanced manufacturing setting has proven to be a struggle, but that is quick- ly changing. "By offering a program such as this, we are seeing the results of grow- ing the much-needed talent locally," said Wrightsman. VU's Electronics Fun- damentals Certificate pro- gram will provide students with a comprehensive intro- duction to all areas of elec- tronics (AC/DC, digital cir- cuits, and linear electronics) and hands-on use of multi- meters, oscilloscopes, func- tion generators, power sup- plies, and soldering tech- niques in the lab. No previous experience in electronics is required to en- roll. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for registration (except current high school students), and all tools and parts are pro- vided. Some students may have this certification paid in full with available grant funding.
