Community effort makes for 10th Annual Tractor Ride By James Capozella It takes more than a group of antique tractor enthusiasts to make for the 10th Annual Pike County Tractor Drive set for Sat- urday, September 23. The Pike County Tractor Club needs fuel in the form of the Pike County Young Farmers who always han- dle lunch for the dozens of drivers and passengers on the ride. The ride also takes co- ordination from members and participants from sur- rounding counties and communities who put on the ride in conjunction with the Winslow Commu- nity Festival sponsored by the Winslow Lions Club. This 10th anniversa- ry ride includes a Dutch Treat lunch at the Ire- land Sportsman's Club af- ter touring through about 19 miles of backroads be- ginning at the Otwell El- ementary School parking lot. Dave Yager and Terry Beadles are handling the opening ceremonies at the start and finish around the Otwell Elementary School. This year's ride tours Northeastern Pike Coun- ty and Northwestern Du- bois County backroads and is approximately 19 miles in the morning and 14 miles in the afternoon. For more information on the ride contact club mem- bers Jim Lamey at 812-789 - 2688, David Yager at 812- 483-9532, Mike Whaley at 812-582-0270 or Ross El- more at 812-582-2628. Dubois County his- torical features on the ride include McDonald's stage stop, Sheritt Ceme- tery and Portersville (old County Seat). The Ireland Sportsman's Club will be the lunch stop catered by the Pike County Young Farmers. As in years past, a drive video can be pre-ordered at the time of registration at a cost of $20.00, The no en- try fee ride/drive takes off at 10 :00 a.m. EDT on Sat- urday, September 23 with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. All tractor driv- ers must be licensed. ANTIQUE TRACTOR SHOW An added bonus for trac- tor lovers prior to this year's 10th Annual ride, was the Bud Meyer and Owen Kink- er Antique Tractor Show which took place July 14-16 in Stendal. Featured were dozens of 1939 through 1979 tractors plus a nice collec- tion of garden tractors all located at 9491 S CR 800E.
