Lake High Rock was the first event, Roger Beaver got the win with 8.36 followed by John Rankin with 7.58. Jimmy Melton was third with 5.34, and he had big bass as well, with that same 5.34 largemouth, Jason Price had 4.32 and fifth went to Ronnie Humphrie4s with 4.14. Most recently, the CCBC was on Lake Wylie and Larry Melton grabbed the win with 4.44. Ray Hembree had 3.58 and was second and he took big fish with a 2.14 large- mouth. Roger Beaver had 3.18 and was third followed by John Rankin with 3.08. Fifth with 2.72 was James Osborne. Kosa The retirees fished Lake Wylie last week and John Black fished solo and got the win with 9.95. Second with 9.10 was Dean Champion and Ken Johnson, they also had big bass with a 2.90 largemouth, Ronnie Humphriess had 6.40 and was third. This week they had back to Lake Norman. Moss Seventeen boats fished last Thursday in the weekly bass tournament. Larry Denton and Allen McSwain got first with 8.81. Buddy and Michale Black had 7.56 and was sec- ond with Ronnie Beason and J R Garland a close third with 7.13. Charles and Maverick Canipe got fourth with 5.56. I was hunting on pri- vate property but others hunt there as well. It's large enough for several people, but I wanted to make sure that I was far off the beaten path. I was willing to climb, crawl, and creep until I had found my "promised land." I loaded my lock-on tree stand and my stacking sticks on my back and headed up the mountain. The fi rst 300 yards were almost straight up the hill with an occasional bend. I knew that most hunters would be unwilling even to go to these extremes. But I was not satisfi ed. After a few more turns I was standing in a saddle that was an obvious, deer travel, corridor. I studied the situation a few minutes, (I really just needed to rest) but after some soul- searching I determined I needed to go a little farther, around the next hollow. I wanted to be sure that I would be alone. By now my shirt was soaking wet and my legs were feeling the extra weight of the tree stand. I moved about 50 yards below a thicket just above the crest of the hill. When I made it to the other side I noticed a nice fl at. Heck, I doubt if even ole Daniel Boone himself had ever set foot on this virgin territory. I quickly located a perfect tree where my stand would go. I set the stand up, put the stacking sticks together, and strapped everything snuggly to the tree. I climbed up, looked around, and noticed an odd shape about 40 yards away. You guessed it... another tree stand! I wished I had brought my chain saw! Sometimes in our lives we think that we too are at a place where no one has ever been. We think that we are alone in our situation or circumstance. We feel that nobody has ever faced the trouble we are now facing. The fact is, there is nothing new. Someone else has been where you are right now.
