EVENTS Little Miss Sweetcorn Contestants Wanted Gamma Omega Chapter of the Tri-Kappa is seeking contestants for the upcoming Oakland City Sweet Corn contest. The contest will be on Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m. at the Oakland City Elementary cafeteria. Contestants must be five to eight years of age at the time of the contest. There is a $40 spon- sor fee. Contestants must perform a talent and theme attire in addi- tion to a short interview. Space is limited, call Tammy Schroeder at (812) 664-6648. Celebration honors Collins The Hazleton United Method- ist Church is hosting a celebration on Sunday, July 23 in the church basement in honor of Hazel Col- lins' 98th birthday. Cards will be accepted and cake and punch will be served. Worship service will be at 9 a.m. and the celebration will follow immediately afterwards in the church basement. WEEKLY TIDBITS Charlie and Betty Jo Wright went to church at Bunker Hill Baptist in Vincennes on Sunday. Betty Cain went to the Mt. Olym- pus Alumni Banquet last weekend and celebrated 70 years since grad- uation. She also recently enjoyed talking to Vera Potts on the phone. Gloria and Bill Huey attended the Mt. Olympus Alumni Banquet last Saturday and their graduating class received recognition for hav- ing the most members present. Maggie True Armstrong had lunch with Neely Held at a restau- rant in Princeton on Tuesday. Rita McGuyer enjoyed dinner with her daughter Tish Johnson on Wednesday in Vincennes. Theresa Loveless went to sever- al doctor's appointments last week. On Wednesday evening, Dessi Waple watched her friends bout in the roller derby. Brittany White and Laura Wolf and her mom visited with Vera Potts on Monday. Marvin and Sue Ellen Barton were in Evansville last week. A f- ter running a few errands, they en- joyed lunch in the area. Donna Horrall and her cousin Sarah Ferguson went to the casi- no in Evansville on Monday. They only lost $10 and had a great time. Donna also finished a baby quilt for a baby shower this weekend. She al- so won a little money at bingo and is planning a shopping trip soon to buy more material to make more quilts. For Father's Day, Marylou Kay and Jim Dickerson went to dinner with friends. Amber Mamos visited with friends last week. Shirley Graham enjoyed spend- ing some time with Marylou Kay and Jim Dickerson. Barry and Sandy Bane and Ger- ald and Cornelia Bane went to Rich- mond, Ind., to see their great-niece get married. They enjoyed the love- ly day trip. Wilma June and Leroy Brown celebrated their 50th wedding an- niversary over the weekend. Ger- ald and Cornelia Bane planned to help them celebrate. Last week Barry and Sandy Bane enjoyed their grandchildren Lexi and Quinn Bane spending a few days with them. On Wednesday, Lexi and Sandy went shopping in Vincennes together. Gerald and Cornelia Bane, and Barry and Sandy Bane attended the Mt. Olympus Alumni Banquet last Saturday. Marvin and Sue Ellen Barton, and Derek Barton attended the fu- neral for Denver Sullivan at Doyle Funeral Home in Princeton. Sue El- len and Derek provided the singing for the service. On Father's Day, Derek and Sue Ellen Barton took Marvin to a local restaurant for dinner. Leon and Alice Whittington at- tended the Mt. Olympus Alumni Banquet last Saturday. On Sunday, they went to the Whittington Fami- ly Reunion that was held at Jim and Connie Reis' home. Leon and Al- ice did some shopping on Wednes- day. They also attended the visita- tion for Denver Sullivan this week. On Friday, Alice and Leon Whit- tington went to Princeton for lunch. Margie Wheeler, Paul Kolb and Helen Kolb enjoyed a get-togeth- er last week. They are the remain- ing two graduates from their high school class. Nancy Wheatley and her grand- daughter, Josie, went to Evansville shopping on Thursday. Maggie True Armstrong and Courtney Shuttle ate lunch togeth- er at a restaurant in Mt. Carmel. Dessi Waple went out to dinner with friends on Friday evening. Vacation Bible School is going on in many church- es this summer and this is a great way for the children to learn more about the Bible stars and what they have do- ne and how it relates to our lives now. Learn new songs and make interesting items also. Check out the church section for the VBS near your area. I almost forgot the post- cards! There were none at Sweets Column Winslow, Ind. 47598 this week and the point of interest is to have a glorious 4th of July.
