Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. God is our source of strength in times of weak- ness. We receive both in- ner and outer strength when we pray. Often turn- ing to God in prayer isn't our first response; instead, we talk to others, despair in our weakness, or escape in- to something that takes us away from the issue at hand. Going to God in prayer strengthens us in times of weakness. "When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, 'The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.'" ( Judges 6:12). We forget that Jesus was human as well as divine. He had callouses on His hands. If the chisel slipped and cut His finger, His blood was red and warm like ours. He knew what it meant to work long hours, to come in at night tired and weary. That is one of the reasons Jesus could say with such appeal, "Come to Me, all you who la- bor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Mat- thew 11:28). When we are exhausted and hurting, we can take comfort from the fact that Jesus knows. The greatest work Jesus did was not in the carpen- ters shop, or at the marry- ing feast in Cana, where He turned the water into wine. The greatest work Jesus did was not when He made the blind to see, the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak, or even the dead to rise. What was His greatest work? His greatest work was what He accomplished through the Cross and Res- urrection. There the bur- den of our sins was placed on Him and there He won our salvation. That is why we can come by faith to Him and He will give us rest. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. I'm sure you will leave feeling blessed. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter NEW LIBERTY G.B. CHURCH (Coe) 1820 S. Co Rd. 800 S. Oakland City Gary Pancake, Pastor 812-664-4716 Sunday school 9:30 a.m., Faron McLaughlin, Super- intendent, Ryan Edrington, Assistant and Sunday morn- ing worship at 10 :30 a.m. Although many of our congregation were away from us, it was good to have several out on a sunny Sun- day. We were happy to have Anik's mother with us from Canada. Always good to see her. Gary's sermon was about "Making Choices" and the scriptures were from Gen- esis 3:1-7, Genesis 12:11-20, and II Samuel 12:1-5 and 14- 17. His sermon pointed out that we all make many deci- sions every day and that we must be careful that our de- cisions will please God. The scriptures showed some bad decisions and how they af- fected everyone. June 11 will be our church council meeting at 6 p.m. June 14 is Flag Day. Raise it proudly. June 15 -18 will be Mid- dle School Camp at Camp Brosend. We have six chil- dren attending. June 18 will be Father's Day. We have a committee to deliver our program. PLEASANT RIDGE G.B. You are en- couraged to take part in these services. Pentecost As you may know, last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday. This was the Sun- day that the Holy Spirit was poured out on believ- ers in Jerusalem. There was a great noise, tongues like fire and different lan- guages spoken by Apos- tles. Jews from all over the Roman empire understood the Apostles in their town language. When certain ones be- lieved the message and were cut to the heart, they asked, "Brothers what should we do? " They were not told to take a sacrifi- cial lamb to the temple, or to obey John's baptism of repentance unto salvation, but rather, "Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in name of Jesus Christ for the for- giveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'" See Acts 2:1-42. What is the gift of the Holy Spirit? I tend to be- lieve it helps the Christian in his daily life. Paul tells us, "The fruit of the Spir- it is love, joy, peace, pa- tience, kindness, good- ness, faithfulness, gentle- ness and self-control" (Ga- latians 5:22). No mention of tongues here either in known languages or un- known. In I Corinthians 13, Paul tells us that tongues will cease. Because He lives.
