Piecemakers Quilt Guild Piecemakers Quilt Guild meets the fi rst Wednesday of each month from 10AM - 12PM at the Lincoln County Senior Center, Lincoln Campus of Gaston College, 511 Aspen Street, Lincolnton, room 319. Singles Dinner Club, Shelby Singles Dinner Club (ages 45 and up) will meet The Kings Mountain Historical Museum's Latest Exhibit of Kings Mountain, NC will be on display until September 8, 2012 . The exhibit brings together artifacts and photographs from several of the area churches, chronicling the growth of organized religion in the area. The exhibit will be on display at the Kings Mountain Historical Museum (100 E. Mountain Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086), Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 4PM. The Kings Mountain Historical Museum's Latest Exhibit, Go Tell It on the Mountain: The Churches The Kings Mountain Historical Museum will once again host their Annual Reverse Raffl e & Auctions at the American Legion, 155 York Road, Kings Mountain starting at 6pm on Saturday, September 15, 2012. New this year, the event will include live entertainment by the local music group, Harvest. Tickets cost $100 for 2 people, includes dinner and a chance to win the grand prize of $10,000. Every 10th ticket drawn will win a door prize. All paid ticket holders are eligible and need not be present to win. Funds generated from this event go towards supporting the Museum's mission of informing the public of the history of the City of Kings Mountain and surrounding areas by preserving and exhibiting the collection in which we have been entrusted. Mental Health Association Support Groups The Mental Health Association in Cleveland County sponsors a Support Group for Survivors of Suicide. It meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. This support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss. For details, contact the Mental Health Association at 704-481-8637 or mha@clevelandcountymha.org. Family-to-Family Caregiver Support Group, meets every third Tuesday of the month, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the Cleveland County Red Cross (1333 Fallston Road, Shelby, NC 28150) Co-sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County and NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland, this support group offers a safe space for close relatives of persons suffering from a severe mental illness to share their experience with others in a similar situation. The six (5 hour) classes are once a week and begin on Sunday, September 9, from 1:00–5:45pm at The United Way of Rutherford County, 668 Withrow Road, Forest City, NC. Forest City – A spouse is in and out of mental hospitals suffering from Schizophrenia. A grown child returns home to live with his/her parents because manic depression does not allow him to function in society. A young daughter is diagnosed as suffering with major depression. Where do families turn when they are faced with the problems that come when dealing with a close family member suffering with a mental illness on a daily basis? Persons who will benefit most are the parents, grandparents, spouses, siblings and adult children of someone they love who is suffering with one or more of these illnesses: Depression (unipolar); Bipolar (manic depression); Schizophrenia; Schizoaffective disorder; Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD); Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD); Co-occurring Brain Disorder and Addictive Disorders. The fi rst The Shelby Lions Club The Shelby Lions Club has made changes each month will be a business meeting held at the Lions Senior Village on North Morgan Street. The regular membership meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of each month at Deerbrook Country Club. Shelby Lions are making this change to encourage local residents to take a look at the club and consider getting involved. Shelby Lions are active in the community and offer fellowship and fun to members. The meeting schedule change will help us to keep our membership dues low, reduce the monthly meeting time, and still offer the fellowship and community involvement that many are looking for. Tuesday of Wednesday, September 12 - The Shelby Lions Club will be distributing USDA Commodities at the Cleveland County Fair Grounds. Those who wish to come to fairground and fi ll out an application will only need some identifi cation and must live in Cleveland County. If a person is unable to come in person, they may send a note with the number in the family, their address and their whole family income, signed by them. The distribution is based on the number in the family and the income. Relay for Life Event, Grover Grover Town Hall will be holding a Benefi t Spaghetti Supper for Sandy Surber, September 13, 2012, 5pm - 8pm. Sandy is currently fi ghting a rare form of cancer, has already endured one surgery and has been told she will need another one to fi ght the cancer in her body. After the next surgery Sandy will be out of work indefi nitely and any donations are greatly appreciated! Raffl e also to be held with supper, tickets $1. This is a one- day retreat for children ages 6 - 16 who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Participants will have the opportunity to express their grief through writing, crafts, play activities and group discussions. South Mountains State Park Connelly Springs South Mountains State Park will be having the following Upcoming Environmental Programs: Saturday, September 15 - "South Mountains State Park: The Past, the Present, and the Future". Join Ranger Waltz at the Visitor Center at 11:00 pm for an informative presentation on the history and resources that have shaped South Mountains into the largest state park in North Carolina. Saturday, September 15 - "Skulls and Skins" - Look for a Park Ranger and his interesting display of skulls and skins at the Visitor Center. Guest speaker will be Deborah Lloyd, a Reiki Master and author, who currently works with a hospice agency in Asheville, NC. She was stricken with polio as a young child. Behavior Acceptance Helps Caregiver Deal with Dementia. But what is it? And how do I use it? The free program will be a discussion of the "behavior acceptance" concept that helps caregivers interact with persons with dementia, no matter what the cause of the dementia. Come with your questions about behaviors associated with dementia. The program begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 7:00, but caregivers are encouraged to arrive late, if necessary, and leave early.
