WE SELL USED VEHICLES! The Salvation Army of Shelby looks forward to marking National Salvation Army Week in mid-May, highlighted by a celebration ban- quet to honor supporters and continue to spread the Christian message of hope and compassion. "We'll soon be inviting donors, volunteers and government leaders to help us celebrate," Shelby Corps administrator Sgt. Les Ashby said. "Right now, we're looking for businesses and organizations that will help us sponsor this big event." A catered dinner meeting with a speaker and entertainment is planned for Thursday, May 18, at the Epworth Building at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. For more than half a century, The Salvation Army has had a continuous missional pres- ence in Shelby. "Our local corps is working hard to sustain and expand services in Cleveland and Ruth- erford counties," Ashby said. "We want our community to know as much about us as possible, and we will be sharing that at the banquet." Shelby businessman Chris Mabry chairs The Salvation Army Advisory Board for this two-county territory. "For over 50 years, volunteers in our area have given their time and talents," Mabry said, "and along with our excellent staff have made a signifi cant difference in many lives of our friends and neighbors in need. We have so many inspirational stories of how The Salva- tion Army has and continues to make a pos- itive impact in our communities and we want to share them. "National Salvation Army Week is a great time to give thanks and grow awareness of the needs and opportunities to serve all year long," he said. "For all of you who have participated in The Salvation Army efforts in any way, we thank you! To those who are inter- ested in learning more about how to help and make a difference in the future, we welcome your support." Ashby said the Army offi ce will be sending out, through the public media, more information about emergency services, the two family thrift stores and the local church con- gregation. The offi ce recently relo- cated back to the church property at 305-307 N. Lafayette St., and op- erates thrift stores in Shelby, next to Planet Fitness, and in Forest City, beside the DMV license offi ce. Call 704-482-0375 for more information.
