Recently, more than 60 business owners and local residents attended the Cleveland County Chamber's July Business After Hours event hosted by King Law. Attendees par- ticipated in the fi rm's 3rd Annual Christmas In July event. As guests arrived, they were greeted by King Law staff and school supplies were collected and placed under the Christ- mas tree. All the backpacks, pencils, paper, crayons, binders and monetary gifts were do- nated to the Department of Social Services to benefi t more than 150, school-aged, foster care children living in Cleveland County. King Law located at 131 W. Marion St. in Shelby is a general service law fi rm with 15 attorneys and 9 locations across North Caro- lina and South Carolina. The fi rm's managing partner, Brian W. King, a Family Law Spe- cialist, spoke during the event and explained that much of the fi rm's work is spent in the courtroom working with children and their families. "Shelby is a real home for us. We really appreciate it; this is not about our law offi ce, but about kids in DSS Custody having school supplies. We want to give back. We know the terrible situations and we wish you could see the fl ip side and see how the kid's faces will light up over these gifts. We couldn't do this without you." Also attending and min- gling with guests was Deborah Suttles, DSS Foster Care Fundraiser Coordinator. Deborah expressed much appreciation for the numer- ous donations. Anyone wishing to donate school supplies may drop them by King Law or directly to Fos- ter Care at the Cleveland County Department of Social Services. Backpacks for middle and high school aged children are the item of greatest need at this time. Submitted by Kimberly P. The grant was made on behalf of PPG's (NYSE:P- PG) local fi ber glass manu- facturing facility in Shelby. The Earl Scruggs Center's state of the art technology, inter- active exhibits and engaging programming allow students from across the state to have experiential learning opportu- nities at the Center or in the classroom. All resources are aligned to state standards by grade level and subject to en- hance the educational experi- ence for students and educa- tors. While music is the subject most educators expect the Center to connect to, the word is spreading from those that realize that the exhibit content, technology and related re- sources cross multiple subjects and meet numerous state curriculum requirements. In addition to music, students can participate in traditional as well as immersive experiences across curriculum areas including social stud- ies, science, technology, language arts and others. "Since the 2015 launch of the Center's ed- ucational resources, students from public schools, charter schools and home school groups from fi ve counties have participated in the experiential learning opportunities we offer. PPG's support allows the Earl Scruggs Center staff to continue building on the suc- cessful educational foundation we've built," said Emily Epley, executive director of the Earl Scruggs Center. "We are happy to continue supporting the Earl Scruggs Center and its efforts to provide a rich educational resource close to home which serves our employees and their fam- ilies as well as the community and region," said Todd Douthit, PPG manufacturing man- ager at the Shelby plant. "PPG and its founda- tion champion educational efforts like this that encourage youth to think creatively, helping to build a workforce with an interest in and skills for careers related to innovation." The PPG Foundation aims to bring color and brightness to PPG communities in the United States. By investing in educational opportunities, it helps grow today's skilled workforce and develop tomorrow's innovators in industries related to coatings and specialty materials. Plus, it empowers PPG employ- ees to make an impact for causes that are important to them by supporting their volun- teer efforts and charitable giving.
