How to do your senior year Features Page 7 May 18, 2012 Senior year is the finale to your high school career, follow this advice from the Counseling Center to make it the best that it can be. Management T Time ime Management is crucial to succesfully handling your senior year. To do this, do every assignment on time, and make your priori- ties. As your senior year goes on, it will be wiser to ask your teacher what you will be doing ahead of time. As your senior year begins, you will feel like you have all the time in the world, but in reality you will not. Time flies faster than you think. Manage your time or you will become over- whelmed. A few ways to help you do that is to keep a planner with your assignments on it and when they are due or when you turned them in. Time is essential in life, especially in your se- nior year. Make sure you make a memory of everything you do; but, remem- ber to not take too much onto your plate. There is only so much time in a day. Getting good grades M ost seniors have different views on how to get good grades in your senior year, and here are a few to keep you on track. If you are afraid of falling behind on assignments talk to your teachers and find out what you can do to help your grades. Do all of your home- work. Make note cards, most teachers will al- low them on tests. Do all the required reading because it will make the tests easier. Make a planner with your school work in it so you know what you must do to keep your grades up. When it is your senior year it will be crunch time with your future right around Stories by Austin Chase and Eddie Spidle the corner. "You need to work just as hard as if it were your freshman year, after all, you have been through twelve years of school already so finish well." said Economics Teacher Dan Ackley Maintain your GPA until the day you gradu- ate or the college you are looking at might not accept you. If you fall behind talk to your teach- ers about what you could do to help your grade be it an extra assignment or some form of extra credit. Remember, grades are in the top three most important things on a college application. Applying for Scholarships O ne of the most important things to do during your Senior year is to find the money to pay for college which is right around the corner. Our school and other private entities offer hundreds of thousands of dollars. In past years, when Seniors have been adamant about scholarship applications, over a million dollars has been distributed to that particular graduating class. However, the scholarship application process can be deceiving. Typically, Seniors slack off during the most important part of the process: the application. RBHS students have been notorious for submitting sloppy, unedited scholarship applications, unaware of the consequences of a mere misspelled word or an uncapitalized "i". One of the most important aspects to the application is proofreading your essays and re- sponses multiple times. "When you write an application, do not write in text format or informal language. Applications have been disqualified for simply a typo," said Mr. Polster, counselor at RBHS. Another crucial tip for winning those crucial schol- arships is the interview. RBHS students are also notori- ous for showing up to interviews unprepared. In the past, students at RBHS have failed to present themselves appropriately with respect to their choice of clothes and their responses to posed questions. "When you go in for an interview, look impressive, your appearance can get you a scholarship," said Mr. Polster. Finally, constantly check the RBHS web site. That is New Coaches to spear head, Football Program this season how you will know when and how to apply for a schol- arship. Eddie Spidle A&E Editor With the summer fast ap- proaching, we all know that it will be getting hotter, and we will be getting ready for swim- ming and other summer activi- ties, but this is not true for the Red Bluff High Football teams who will be starting their lifting and conditioning for the season on June 19th. With this new season fast approaching we will be seeing a few new changes along the lines of a new coaching staff. Corey Hein will be the new Varsity coach and Dan Ackley will be heading the JV team. With this new staff there will be some changes made to the program as well. Coach Hein said, "The Coach- es are working hard to prepare for spring and summer training and we will be asking more out of our team on accountability." As of this upcoming foot- ball season both Coach Hein and Coach Ackley will be able to work with the same group of guys they had last season. With this rare chance the coaches are able to improve along with their team and see them grow, when Ackley was asked what he was looking forward to most he stat- ed, "Probably seeing how much growth will happen from their Frosh to their Sophomore year and I will see who grows every- day first hand. I was really lucky to get this chance to coach them a second year and see some vic- tories."
