Austrian Exchange Takes Flight This year, Red Bluff High School welcomes twenty Austrian students and two of their teachers for the Austrian exchange. The Austrians attend a music school in Gratz and are going to preform a concert on Tuesday, October 20 in the PAC. Eighteen people are hosting and about fifteen of our students are leaving for Aus- tria this spring. They arrived in Red Bluff on Wednesday, October seventh and are leaving Wednesday, October 21. During their stay, both the Austrians and their hosts will go on exciting excursions and have a fun time with their American family. Zumalt has taken Zohrer (16 years old) to the San Francisco Air Show and might go to Six Flags. Zumalt wants Zohrer to experi- ence, "Our culture and what her interests are." Zohrer plays the violin and piano. She also hopes to get to know how the Americans live. Zumalt said, in Austria, she wants to, "Get closer and learn more about their lives. Aus- tria has a lot of history and is very beautiful." While Hofer (16 years old) is in America, Isaacson's family plans on taking him to places such as Lassen National Park. Hofer plays the drums at his school. Isaacson said, "I just want them to see things that they wouldn't see in Aus- tria, like cows." Both are excited about the ex- change. "Watching football game, eating good burgers, and watching how the school system works," is what Hofer's looking forward to. Scholzen and Sorko (16 years old) are both planning on going to Six Flags. She wants him to experience America and what it has to offer. "I'm pretty excited about having someone else in the house besides me," she said. Sorko plays elec- tric guitar. While he's here, he said, "I want to get better at speaking English and I just want to see the American lifestyle." Coker plans on taking Hiden (17 years old) to places in California like the Harvest Festival in Chico and Hawes Farm. She's looking forward to introducing Hiden to nice people. Hiden plays the clarinet and piano. She's excited to be in this country and to improve her English. Coker said, "Making bonds with people and traveling to another country," is what she's looking forward to the most about the exchange.
